Swift Run Gap to Hightop Mountain Snow Hike -Retrace- 6 Miles - Mod Stren
Details
Primary assumption - Snow, sleet and freezing rain are expected on Friday, plan for winter trail conditions. Hiking sticks, microspikes traction and layered winter clothing are required for this hike.
Starting from Skyline Drive at the Swift Run Gap entrance for Shenandoah National Park, we will travel South on the AT toward Hightop Mountain. The Hightop Mountain summit out/back hike has a beautiful panoramic vista, and is also one of the lesser known summit hikes in the Shenandoah National Park. While the Hightop Summit presents the best views, there are many scenic spots through the wintered forest as we travel the AT.
The main out and back hike from Swift Run Gap is 5.6 miles and 1,480ft of elevation gain.
