"The Weekenders" is a GNHA group that hikes on Saturdays or Sundays. Although hike distance, elevation gain and pace may vary, hikes will conform to the GNHA Hike Rating System for VS or VVS hikes. See the Hike Rating System: https://www.greenvillehiking.com/hike-rating-system .
Basically in the heart of Brevard, this lovely hike begins at Bracken Preserve, and on to Cat Gap in Pisgah NF. The hike route is of the "snake swallowing a balloon" variety, with a "string" at each end, and a 6-mile clockwise loop in the middle.
We'll first hike up Bracken Mtn Trail, then on to Mackey Ridge, where we will pick up FS 475C (trail) all the way to Cat Gap. Then we backtrack on FS 475C to the Pinnacle Mtn Trail, cross over Burl Mountain, then pick up Brushy Creek Trail to Bracken Mtn Trail and back down to the parking lot. Note: practically all the EG is in the first 3 miles of this hike.
Meet at the Food Lion in Brevard at 9:15, and carpool the last 2 miles, as the trailhead parking is tight!
NOTE: Bella Fleck will be performing at the Brevard Music Center (right next to Bracken Preserve) that evening at 7:30pm. Tickets on sale online at the Brevard Music Center.
