Overview

An easy, social nature walk ideal for beginners, dog lovers, and curious families—enjoy calming gardens, light whimsy, and friendly vibes.

Details

Meet inside the Baker Visitor Center at 12:00 p.m. Restrooms are available at the start point.

We will walk down Running Cedar Road, cross over on Bent Creek Road, and then climb the Carolina Mountain Trail back to the Education Center. Then we will tour the formal gardens before we leave.

Dress for the weather. Some may want walking poles. Sneakers should be fine, unless it has rained recently. Be sure to bring plenty of water and a protein snack.

Dogs on leash are welcome, but are not allowed in buildings or the Bonsai Exhibit. Trail strollers should be ok.

Of course, the Troll Exhibit will be going on. You may want to stay after our walk to seek out other trolls. The Winter Lights will also be up, though they won't be lighted. Again, you may want to return in the evening (at additional expense) to view this unique annual spectacular.

The NC Arboretum does not have an admission fee, but they charge $20 per car parking fee (so pack as many people in your car as you can). We recommend for the driver to purchase the lowest level annual membership which includes free parking. (Of course, you may want a higher level membership, your choice.) We walk at the Arboretum at least six times per year.
