£1 Walk Pompocali (1.5hr walk in LS14 & 17)

Come and check out the mysterious Pompocali in Hetchell Woods and the oldest pub in the UK on this scenic countryside walk of approx 1 hr 30 mins. Medium pace. Country pub at the end (optional).

RENDEZVOUS POINT
Outside the Bingley Arms pub, Church Lane, Bardsey, Leeds LS17 9DR departing at 11am sharp. If using What3Words for navigation : perky.fighters.mealtime

FREE PARKING
Side of the road either by All Hallowes church in Barsdey Village (1 min walk to meeting place) or roadside by The Bingley Arms. The pub also has parking but I haven't arranged anything with them. Obtain own permission if you wish to use their facilities.

ROUTE
We will go up a STEEP hill at the side of the pub, past some gorgeous cottages and onto some winding country lanes with lovely views. We will then go through some golden wheat fields into the woods alongside a stream and arrive at Pompocali which is often is completely covered in purple heather. A few minutes free time here for you to wander up and down the mounds / take pics and enjoy the view. We will then head to the stepping stones (dare you cross?) and through the woods towards Hetchell Crags and back down through the village.

GOOD BITS
Unusual scenery / landscapes, gorgeous purple heathers chocolate box cottages to photograph, a village duck pond, a clear stream and pretty village. Plenty of Kites overhead (the bird variety). Priest holes, a Dutch oven, pretty beer garden and an inglenook fireplace to enjoy at the historic pub (the food is also good!)

BAD BITS
A few overgrown sections that have nettles, small mud pools in places, a thigh burning hill at the start, rocky / gnarly underfoot for a lot of the way. A busy road to cross (twice), I might get lost :)

FOOTWEAR
You can do this walk in trainers but walking boots would be better as it would be easy to twist an ankle in some sections. If it has rained prior, I definitely suggest boots.

WEATHER

DOGS
Well behaved dogs on short leads OK.
