I sometimes drive out in the desert to look for...well, desert stuff, and one day I drove down Oak Creek Road from Willow Springs Rd. and decided I must hike the creek that runs along the road some day when it gets cooler. Next week will be cooler so perfect time to go.
There's a mining outfit above the creek in one area and they are dumping tons of rocks down the steep slope towards the creek. There could be some interesting rock finds there, so bring some heavy tote bags.
There's also some interesting rock walls along the creek.
Eventually the creek fizzles out but then we can cross the road and hike one of windmill roads back. Or go back and hike a couple of miles on PCT south.
We will meet at the small dirt parking lot on Oak Creek Road, just after you turn onto it from Tehachapi Willow Springs Rd. There are 2 huge oak trees on the lot, so you can't miss it.
Super easy hike. Maybe only 5 miles. Depends what kind of fun stuff we discover along the way.
