MRC Great Performers: Paul Lewis (1) ~ Beethoven, Haydn and Brahms
*PLEASE BUY YOUR TICKET BEFORE YOU RSVP, YOU WILL BE ASKED TO LEAVE YOUR SEAT NUMBER. YOUR RSVP IS FOR MEETING UP AND YOUR HOST WILL BE WAITING FOR YOU. ‘The pianist combined muscularity, tenderness and intelligence with unshowy dexterity to create interpretations of great insight and power.’ – The Guardian ‘Awe-inspiring’ is not usually how you’d describe a musician as self-effacing and soft-spoken as Paul Lewis, yet you walk away from his concerts with the feeling that you’ve been in the presence of greatness. Lewis doesn’t aim to astound with force or fire, but to simply put you in touch with the music. The music of Beethoven, Brahms and Haydn needs no special pleading, but there’s certainly more to discover within. Lewis guides us through the freewheeling imagination and wit of Beethoven’s bagatelles, the beginning of the piano sonata in Haydn’s innovative sonatas and Brahms’ fantasies, some of the most intimate and personal music he ever penned. Paul Lewis invites you to hear this music anew. From Melbourne Recital Centre’s Director of Artistic Planning, Marshall McGuire: ‘Paul Lewis continues his exploration of the heart of the piano repertoire – in a pair of concerts focussing on the genius and ground-breaking musical brilliance of Haydn, Beethoven and Brahms. This is an epic series – four concerts over three seasons – each step providing more insight and understanding of the very origins of piano writing, music that influenced generations of composers and performers.’ Artists Paul Lewis, piano Program Beethoven Eleven Bagatelles, Op.119 Haydn Piano Sonata in E-flat, Hob.XVI.49 Piano Sonata in B minor, Hob.XVI.32 Brahms Four Piano Pieces, Op.119 *PLEASE BUY YOUR TICKET BEFORE YOU RSVP, YOU WILL BE ASKED TO LEAVE YOUR SEAT NUMBER. What we're about

Welcome to Melbourne Classical Music Appreciation Group! Classical music is thriving here in this wonderful City! There is almost too much choice! And ours is one of the most successful classical music groups and probably with the widest choice of events Worldwide.

Much of this is due to our wonderful hosts, who have a deep love of music and it is because of them that every concert on our calendar is transformed into an event. We always meetup before a concert and usually afterwards as well, often going for coffee/drinks or a meal.

We would love you to join us in our exciting, never ending exploration of the musical landscape!

P.S. It’s a good idea to have a quick read through the FAQs before joining. There is some useful information there about buying tickets, finding each other at concerts, suggesting new events and all sorts of other interesting stuff! (
