What we’re about

We are launching a new initiative to move LiftMeUp to the next stage of our journey; therefore, our Support Group will be held every two weeks instead of weekly. The Wednesdays in between the sessions will be reserved for prepping this launch!

The exact dates for the Support Group are listed below:

Every Fortnight On Wednesday in 2020

April: 01/04, 15/04, 29/04

May: 13/05, 27/05

June: 10/06, 24/06

"Hi. My name is N and I've recently been diagnosed with depression. It's just been hard.

A few months ago, I was a happy, bubbly, social and driven person. These days I'm quiet, tired all the time and don't seem to get anything done. I don't go out much anymore and find myself distant from close friends and family. I'm quite active but I recently put on 10 kgs, which should've been a sign that I haven't been well...

I left my job about a month ago to take care of my mental health. There are days I feel great and optimistic and other days, I can't even get out of bed and make myself a proper meal. There was no trigger event for me and for a while, I tried to explain why I feel the way I feel. I finally figured that whatever the cause was - it doesn't matter. We are where we are and we just have to find a way to deal with it.

Everyone tries to help but very few people understand. And that's okay. I find that I usually feel better when I'm surrounded by people I can trust. They treat me like a normal person and make me feel that I'm not broken, that I'm still fun to be with, that shit happens and that they will be there for me.

I want to do the same for you. I want you to know that whatever it is you are going through, it's only TEMPORARY. YOU ARE NOT ALONE and YOU ARE STRONGER THAN YOU THINK!

LiftMeUp is a safe space to let out feelings and thoughts. We may or may not understand but WE WILL BE THERE FOR YOU. I want you in be in a room full of people that are kind, respectful and know what you are talking about. For me, sometimes that is enough.

And hey if you don't feel like talking, it's okay too. We can just talk a walk if the weather is nice. On rainy days, we can get together and just chill. If you want to be upset, don't do it alone. Come to LiftMeUp Depression Support Group EVERY WEDNESDAY in Southbank, CBD. I'll give you a hug, a cookie or a tissue. You can go and cry all you want, just don't be all by yourself.

Such a cliche thing to say but THIS TOO SHALL PASS. You just have to trust the process.

LiftMeUpAustralia Incorporated is a registered not-for-profit based in Melbourne, Australia. We started with one person sharing her experience and now have over 600 members that identify with our story. The number of participants grow rapidly and 80% of participants return after one session. 

The best part about trying to make a difference is to actually see it happen. The looks on people's faces as the evening comes to an end let us know that we have created something special. We truly believe in the power of companionship and story sharing in healing the wounded souls and we hope that you would join us in our journey.
