What we'll do

UPDATE: river levels will be high. If you don’t want to cross a river and get wet up to your shins, please Opt out now so that you’re not disappointed when we get there. Also, one of the viewing platforms had been vandalised and there was severe flooding when I went last week so, viewing the Big Peninsula Tunnel might not be possible.

This is approximately a 15km, grade 3 Circuit hike, with a few very steep climbs, located in Yarra Ranges National Park Victoria. The hike should take no more than 4hrs to complete.

The Upper Yarra Goldfields hike, also known as McMahons Goldfield Circuit, is a highly varied walk that passes through some very pretty areas, great views, plus many remnants of the gold mining history of the area.

This trail has been closed for a long time so, it may come with some challenges and a need to modify the route as we go.

We’ll go at a slower than normal pace but, you can still expect to work up a sweat walking at approximately 5-6km/h with minimal stops. At events like this, 4 hours or less in duration, we do not stop for lunch breaks but, we almost always go to a pub, winery, cafe or restaurant afterwards for a meal and/or drinks. If that sounds like something you're up for, you might want to bring a change of clothes.

Total distance: 15 km
Max elevation: 466 m
Total climbing: 722 m
Pace: approx[masked] mins/km or 5-6km/h
