What we'll do

The $2 fee is an optional donation for our charity fundraiser events.

VERY HARD TRAIL!!! Experienced hikers and runners only.

Please bring a large towel (maybe a change of clothes too) as you’ll likely need to carpool and you’ll likely be sweaty and dirty by the end.

It’s a nasty trail between Warburton and Fernshaw. This’ll be a test of your fitness. I'll be repeating it 3-4 per year to see how my fitness is progressing, you're welcome to join me at your own risk.

Mount Juliet is among the highest peaks in the Yarra Ranges region, with a very steep single track leading to the 1120m summit. The highest summit in the park is nearby Mt Donna Buang at 1223m. You won't see it.

Mt Juliet is one of several trigonometric cairns remaining from the original Geodetic Survey of Victoria. The summit climb is among the most difficult in the Ranges, with a rise in altitude from 211m to 1120m, with the final section over rocks, fallen trees, slippery mud and parts of the trail may be over grown.

No views and very little reward when you reach the top. Only about 8-9km long and we’ll come back the same way we went up. The last km before the summit may force you on your hands and knees. You'll probably get quite dirty and you'll probably fall over at times. There may be leaches. This is not for the feint hearted. You may be on your own at times if the group spreads out. There no chance of getting lost though. Go at your own pace. Bring food, drink, first aid kit, hiking shoes.

WHAT TO BRING:

A towel and change of clothing, as you may need to carpool
NO RUNNING SHOES you’ll needs lots of grip.
Grippy, hiking boots or shoes
Weatherproof jacket
Water (1-2 litres) ideally NOT hand held
Light Snacks, there will NOT be a lunch stop during the event
Hiking Poles if you have them
Salt for leech removal
$2 Donation for Oxfam Trailwalker Teams (OPTIONAL)

LOCATION

The meeting point is NOT at the start of the trail. Parking at the trail entrance is limited; we will need to carpool for approx. 1.5km in the most appropriate vehicles. You may be asked to volunteer a lift to and from the trail entrance.
