Peak District Ridge & Summit Hike — Mam Tor Loop from Castleton

Join us for a refreshing and scenic full-day hike in the heart of the Peak District National Park as we tackle the loop from Castleton up to the summit of Mam Tor and back.
Who it’s for:
Anyone with reasonable fitness who enjoys walking on varying terrain, great views and good company.
Hike details:
approximately 22.9 km (≈14.2 miles) with around 740 m of ascent and descent.
Why join:
sweeping ridge views, varied terrain (natural paths, unpaved sections, some gravel), and a chance to explore the Peak District with a friendly group.
Transport & logistics:
We’ll meet at a convenient time in Birmingham / local pick-up point and leave by car.
Car-share option: if you have a car and space, please register (number of seats, pick-up point) in the comments. If you’re looking for a ride, please say so and we’ll match people.
Public transport option: You can also travel independently from Birmingham by train/bus to the area.
• From Birmingham to the Peak District the train journey takes around 3 hours (via Sheffield/Edale) according to Rome2Rio.
• From Birmingham to Hope (Derbyshire) by train takes 1 h 51 min on the fastest services, average ~3h 17m.
• From Birmingham to Castleton (Manchester) by train takes ~2h 25m fastest (requires at least one change) when booked in advance.
Meeting point in Castleton: We’ll specify a car park / landmark once we know numbers.
What to bring: typical hill walk gear—sturdy boots, layers, waterproofs, snacks/water, head-torch (just in case).
Group size / commitment: Please confirm attendance and your transport status (driver with seats / need ride / independent). Let’s aim to stick to the schedule so we’re back before dark.
Please note: This is a medium-hard hike given the distance and elevation. If you’re comfortable walking 20 km+ and climbing ~700 m, you’ll be fine.
