NEW Venue...Maybe updates to details etc. Please check back for new info. Bell Park, near Saluda NC , on the Spartanburg Highway (176), just south of the bridge over the Green River Gorge. 4360 Spartanburg Hwy Saluda NC.
Meet at 10 AM. There are two parking lots. The smaller of the two is at the entrance. About half a dozen vehicles can park there. There’s another parking lot across the street. About 20 vehicles can park in that parking lot. Looking from the entrance, that parking lot is about 100’ away, toward the right. There are no bathrooms at this facility.
Jim and Mel are the guest guides. This is a recently developed, moderately challenging trail. It's a popular trail for hiking and walking, You can still enjoy some solitude during quieter times of the day. The trail is open year-round and is beautiful to visit anytime. Dogs are welcome, but must be on a leash.
There are two loops. Together, they're about 2 miles. The optional smaller loop (a half mile) is halfway through the hike. It takes about an hour to complete both loops. There's a staircase section (45 steps) at the beginning and end of the hike. The elevation gain is 272 ft (moderately constant for ½ of the loop). This event may not be for beginners, or people with health/balance issues. At the end to go to the observation deck with the waterfall and the stream is very pleasant. Option visit to Saluda would be an option.
It'll be hot, so bring water. Stay hydrated. Please be aware of your physical abilities and limitations. Bring picnic lunch and chairs to leave in you car and we can picnic afterwards.
