What we're about

We are a contemporary church with an active church family who regularly meet up to share our faith and the good news of Jesus Christ.

We are in the Sydney Eastern suburbs. We meet on Sundays for our church service. We also hold bible study groups (growth groups), have guest speakers, social lunches, afternoon teas and other events. We have a mix of all ages and cultural backgrounds.

We welcome visitors to our Sunday morning gathering. Our service is contemporary with Bible readings, a Bible talk, prayers and a mix of contemporary and traditional Christian songs.

We have a group of talented musicians who support our congregation songs. Our senior minister, Grant Gallant, leads our service. We occasionally have guest ministers. Every second Sunday we have communion. Our service includes kids and youth programs during the service, which is lead by Nerida Zhao. We also have a ‘cry room’ at the back for mothers with young children.

What should I expect

Here is what you should expect when you visit, South Coogee Anglican Church.

Warm welcome

We are a welcoming church with people of mixed ages, nationalities and backgrounds. There is a greeting table at the door where you will give given a Bible and a copy of the Sunday service program. If you would like help or someone to sit with you during the service, please let us know, and one of our welcomers will keep you company. We would like to introduce you to our minister Grant, before the service, if you are interested.

We have an information desk, where we layout magazines, newsletters and books on church and Christian subject matter. Our noticeboard includes details of our upcoming activities, meetings, conferences and social events.

Service

Our service will start at 9.30 am with our entire church family together; kids, youth and adults. Our minister Grant will open the service. We will sing songs to praise the Lord. We do stand when singing, but there is no kneeling in the service. There may be a small family bible talk or information update. The kids and youth then go out to their service in the hall, lead by Nerida and her helpers.

The adult service continues with Bible readings. Grant or a guest minister will give a bible talk. We may have other special programs at this point. We are then lead in prayer by a member of the Church. Every second week we have a communion. We sing another song to share our joy with the Lord and each other. Our service finishes with our church family news and announcements of other events and meetings.

Everyone is invited to stay for morning tea.

Morning tea

After our church gathering, we serve morning tea in the hall. Casual chats with morning tea is a great way to meet others from church over a coffee or tea. Or look over our information desk. We have bathrooms available in the church as well as an accessible toilet.
