Split Oak North & Center Trail via Moss Park

Details
Taken from the Florida Wildlife Commission trail map: “This 5.4 mile loop is considered easy, but some trails may be sandy and require moderate effort. This trail is a mix of shaded and exposed sections, so be prepared by bringing two liters of water, sunscreen, and bug spray.”
I propose to include the 0.9 mile Lake Loop for a 6+ mile hike over flat ground with the group. Let’s meet at GPS pin in the park and start on the Florida trail for ¼ mile, where we will take a group picture under one of the Oak Trees. We’ll continue on the Florida Trail/Split Oak Loop for another quarter mile before taking the blue Lake Loop near Bennet Pond/Lake Hart, before rejoining the Split Oak Loop trail back to the parking area. Depending upon the heat/weather, we can investigate the Eagle’s Nest Hammock and the Split Oak Wildlife Area and Blueberry Patch.

What to expect:
- There is a $3 admission fee to the county park. Make a right after the ranger booth, and follow the signs for the campgrounds.
- A mix of sandy trails and muddy spots by the water and wetland areas. Depending upon the weather, the trails may be flooded.
- The sun is intense in exposed areas, so sunscreen and water are essential.
- There is a bathroom near the park entrance, but none on the trail.
