Linux Installfest
Details
## Windows 10 is at end-of-life—time to give your computer a second life!
Don’t send that older PC to the scrap heap, just because Windows 11 won’t install on it. With the free operating system Linux, you can keep your hardware running fast, secure, and useful for years to come.
This free event is all about hands-on installs and problem solving. Bring your computer (laptop or desktop, PC or Mac) and we’ll walk you through choosing the right Linux distro, installing it, and fixing any bumps along the way. Whether you’re brand new to Linux or already dabbling and hitting snags, this is the place to get it working.
No pre-registration required. All skill levels are welcome! Bringing your own computer is strongly encouraged, but just showing up to observe and ask questions is OK, too!
Let’s take those “obsolete” machines and make them awesome again!
## Door prize: a Linux computer!
A pre-owned Dell mini PC with Linux installed will be given to a randomly selected attendee.
## What we’ll do:
- Install Linux together, step by step
- Troubleshoot common problems (drivers, Wi-Fi, dual-booting, etc.)
- Share tips for making the transition smooth
- Connect with others who are learning and tinkering, too
- Have free pizza and soft drinks!
- Door prizes – win a Linux mini PC!
- Depending on interest, we may have some breakout sessions for Linux-related tutorials.
## How to prepare:
- If bringing a computer with data you want to keep, please back it up.
- If bringing a desktop computer, it would be ideal (but not necessary) to bring the monitor you want to use. No need for keyboards or mice.
- If bringing a Raspberry Pi, you should also bring a micro SD card.
- We’ll have some common Linux flavors (distros), but If you are interested in a particular one, please let us know ahead of time.
