Explore Historic Downtown Venice
Details
This approximate 1.5 mile walk takes in the commercial buildings constructed in the 1920s primarily by The Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers in downtown Venice. The walk begins with a short history of Venice and the people who were instrumental in its development such as Bertha Palmer, Dr. Fred Albee, John Nolen, The Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers and others. The discussion will also include information on the boom and bust in Venice.
From there, we'll walk through downtown to look at the historic buildings as they are today and talk about the construction, type of architecture and purpose in the 1920s. When possible, I'll provide early photos of the buildings from the 1920s so you can compare now and then.
