(M) DuPont State Forest hike - new members encouraged to join us!

DuPont State Forest: Big Rock, Cedar Rock, Little River and Corn Mill Shoals Trail

This hike is open to all members, but especially it's a great hike to join if you are new member to GNHA or new to hiking!

Hike description: Join us on this moderate loop hike that offers a variety terrain, unique forest, river view, exposed granite, and beautiful long-range views from the top of Cedar Rock Mountain. Not too long into the hike, we’ll briefly veer from our loop for an out and back spur to view the Little River. Soon after rejoining the loop, we’ll pick up elevation with a gradual climb to the top of Cedar Rock and then onward to Big Rock where we will enjoy the exquisite view while having our lunch break. We will be sharing this trail with mountain bikers, which is no issue as long as we stay to the right and be observant.

Carpooling will be offered from University Square Shopping Center, 5050 Old Buncombe Road, and is encouraged due to limited parking on the weekends at Corn Mill Shoals access area. Meet at 8:15 AM in the shopping center near Mr. Salsa for prompt departure at 8:30 AM.

If you are meeting us at the trailhead, be at the Corn Mill Shoals Access area by 9:15 for 9:30 AM hike departure.
