Easy snowshoe Wedge Pond Beginners or practice
Details
It's time to get ready for a fun winter of snowshoeing. I'm going to do an easy practice snowshoe for beginners or those getting ready to snowshoe for the winter.
You must be able to put on your own snowshoes and be able to snowshoe in city parks. This will be a relaxing snowshoe around Wedge Pond. If there is not enough snow, we'll choose another location further in Kananaskis. The goal is enough snow to practice, but not waist deep snow.
The purpose of this hike is to practice snowshoeing and to prepare for an advanced snowshoe I'm posting for the week after.
We will meet at the Wedge Pond parking lot at 9:45am, ready to snowshoe at 10am. You can arrange your own carpooling from Calgary in the comments after you've been accepted on the hike. I'm in Cochrane, so I can take three people from Cochrane or the Petro Can at Hwy 1 and 22. Recommended gas fee for this hike is $15. Snowshoes with traction on the bottom and poles are mandatory.
Please dress and pack well for the weather. Expect ice and snow, some slippery conditions. Bring a lunch, water, layers, first aid kit, etc.
We will snowshoe around Wedge Pond at a relaxed pace. Absolutely, no running ahead, lagging behind, or asking the organizer to change the route. We are out for the day to enjoy the mountains, we are not in a rush. Don't sign up if you have plans later in the day.
Distance: 1km
Elevation: 32m
If there is not a lot of snow and we're done quickly, we'll do a second snowshoe trail nearby.
All Slow and Steady rules and waivers apply.
I prefer a group size of 8-12 people. Minimum of 4 to run to hike. Preference goes to those who've hiked/snowshoed with me before and are signed up for my advanced snowshoe on to Ptarmigan Cirque the weekend after. I will take two "new to me" people.
No guests, no children. I may bring my well trained, friendly, German Shepherd on leash. Other dogs with prior approval only.
If you have any questions, please let me know. If you're accepted and cannot attend, please take your name off the list so someone else can have your spot.
There is a waitlist. Please answer the questions to be considered for the event.
Regular S&S waiver and code of conduct apply and will be signed at the trailhead.
WAIVER:
As per the new policy for waivers, I will bring the group waiver form with me to the Meet-up location and the trailhead. You must sign it before you will be allowed to go on this event.
