**** In order to participate in this event, you must bring a ready to eat vegan dish to share (Vegan means no meat, fish, eggs, dairy or honey- No animal products at all). Not doing so would not be not fair to those of us that do. If everyone does not bring a prepared dish to serve at least 10 people, there may not be enough food. The $3.00 donation option discussed below is if you forget your own reusable plate and utensils. There is no donation option if you do not bring a prepared dish Thank you..****
Please note that this event is promoted in various places so the actual turn out is likely to be bigger than would appear from the RSVP's here.
***This is a free event if you bring your own plate/bowl, eating utensils and serving utensils. If you forget to bring these we ask for a $3.00 donation..***
***NOTE FROM HOST: For this event we will meet at 1:00 PM at Alta Vista Park. Please be prompt as we plan to star our hike soon after gathering. There is free parking in the park. From south bound on Prospect Ave, turn right at Knob Hill Avenue, then turn right onto Julia Avenue and go near the end of the parking lot. We will meet at the picnic tables beside the children's playground and tennis courts , that is also where the potluck will be after the hike. Rain cancels the event. If it looks like it may rain, check the top of this event description for updates.
The hike is around 5.5 miles with ~400' gain. It's a mix of urban hiking, trails, and beach sand. The hike is not strenuous but there are some steep parts. Proper footwear would be good, sandals not so much. The weather should be sunny and warm, but it can get windy sometimes around the beach cliffs. Please bring your own water. You may also want to bring a jacket, hat, sunscreen, etc. A lawn chair or blanket/towel might be good to sit on for the potluck. We should be back at the park by 3:30 - 4:00pm at which time, the potluck will begin.
It's okay to show up for just the hike or the potluck. If you plan to do both, you may need an ice chest for your dish. When you RSVP please indicate if you are doing the hike/potluck/both. Children 13 or older who are experienced hikers are welcome to join us for the hike. Younger children are welcome at the potluck. No dogs please as they are not allowed on the beach or in city parks.***
