The Sierra Club’s Wilderness Travel Course

Please join the West Los Angeles Group of the Sierra Club to learn about “The Sierra Club’s Wilderness Travel Course” from Bernie Fox, Publicity Coordinator for the Wilderness Travel Course in West LA.

For over 40 years, experienced Sierra Club instructors have taught wilderness skills to thousands of Southern Californians. Each year we instruct several hundred students in small groups with a very high instructor to student ratio that provides plenty of one on one instruction. These small groups remain together for the duration of the class, building a true sense of camaraderie among the students.

Learn to feel at home with wilderness navigation, mountain and snow travel. Acquire skills in planning, preparation, equipment and wilderness safety to take you into the backcountry in all seasons, beyond roads and trails, with new friends who share your interest in the outdoors. For many, WTC provides not only valuable skills and knowledge, but also lasting friendships.

Registration is now open! For more information about the Wilderness Travel Course, which begins in January, 2014, click HERE to go to the WTC website.

This free educational event is sponsored by the West Los Angeles Group of the Sierra Club’s Angeles Chapter. Plenty of free lighted parking. Refreshments are served and there is always a lively talk accompanying the program. Feel free to bring a friend; all meetings are open to members and non-members of the Sierra Club.

Found the meeting very informative and reassuring. As a newbie to hiking, I had some reservations, however, the share by the only "student" attending was insightful for me. Since I plan a major hike next year, I will definitely be taking the course.

Humm, that's odd because it is on the home page at www.yogatrailblazers.com just under the Heal The Bay logo and its on my yoga trailblazers meetup page too (with a map and directions). Its Sat. Sept. 21, 2013 at Dockweiler Beach, Tower 55, 11999 Vista del Mar, El Segundo, CA 90293. Enter the parking lot at Imperial Hwy, tell them you are there for Coastal Clean Up day and you can park free. Turn right and park in the first parking lot. I will teach a free yoga class from 8:30am to 9:30am. After the group will clean up the beach with Heal The Bay from 9:30 to 11:30am. At 11:30am there will be a raffle for free passes to YogaWorks, Veggie Grill and other great prizes. Bring your yoga mat, a hat, wear sun screen and I'll see you there!

We just returned from a great trip to Colorado, hiking fishing camping. Ready to learn more and to overcome my fears.

I just returned from a Boatpack/BackpackTrip to San Miguel Island. Fabulous trip! A WTC alumni there has inspired me to take this course. I have a definite fear of being cold and would like to overcome that. Looking forward to the meeting and learning more.
