Climate Reality: Science & Solutions

Climate Change is real, it’s happening now, and we can and should do something about it. This event will present the science of climate change, discuss its causes and effects, and how to address the causes of climate change and prepare for it. Carrie will present practical ways to reduce your “carbon footprint” and even save money in the process. Learn about the advantages of “upcycling”, which is to rework an article that was destined for the landfill into something that is even better than the original!

About our Speaker: Once a wanna-be actress, Carrie Aikman realized she wasn't in a fulfilling career and decided to give it up to pursue something meaningful that would help her sleep at night. In 2008, she interned with an 'eco interior designer' and with Global Green while studying for her LEED exam. Having her son slowed her course a bit, but he and her love of nature are what drive her most to be proactive in environmental work. In 2010 she and her friend began a company that refurbishes used/ugly/broken furniture.

This free educational event is sponsored by the West Los Angeles Group of the Sierra Club’s Angeles Chapter. Plenty of free lighted parking. Refreshments are served and there is always a lively talk accompanying the program. Feel free to bring a friend; all meetings are open to members and non-members of the Sierra Club.

I would like to see technologies which do not use fuel but rather use other ways to produce and sustain systems which are affordable and can be freely distributed (open source).

Having DIY workshops which provide the means of understanding the technology and putting it in action for both home owners and apartment dwellers alike.
