Come join us on a walk and do the Waipara Valley Scenic Walk.
We will be leaving 37 Edmonds Street at 9:30 am or you can meet us at the car park in Rangiora at Coffee Worx at 10:15 am
ABOUT - Tiromoana Bush Walk
It is about 4 km to the coast with a height difference of 280 m, and the walk usually takes 3 hours return. A car park is located adjacent to the Mt Cass Road, with three lookouts along the route providing spectacular views of Tiromoana Bush itself, including wetlands and forests, together with spectacular coastal cliffs, Pegasus Bay and Banks Peninsula in the distance.
The track leads to the remote beach where Kate Stream enters Pegasus Bay, with the option to explore further along this beach. The return loop on the southern side of the valley allows walkers to traverse through the heart of Tiromoana Bush and return to the Mt Cass Road car park via bush remnants and wetlands, with further spectacular views along the coast. This walk has a bit of everything, and offers rewards for people at many levels
• No Dogs
• No camping
• No cycles, mountain bikes or motorcycles on the track
The walk can often be closed over summer depending on the fire risk. It pays to check before heading there.
It will close from late July - October as it is a working far.
Turn off SH1 onto Mt Cass Road, the start of the walk is approx 10km from Waipara Junction.
What we normally do as we meet at James and Danny Place in the City and have a coffee and a bit of a natter then we organise the cars, both James and I can take about 10 people between us! It is a good idea to text Danny telling him you will need transport [masked])
If you could just give your driver $10 dollars (per person) this is for the return ride and helps keep it affordable for all.
So you can start coming from 9:00 am as that is when the coffee machine is on!
We will need to get away no later than 9:30 am
Message us or text Danny on[masked] if you would like further details :-)
Essential items to carry
• Warm clothing (even on hot days)
Anyone who does not come with the essential items listed above may be excluded from joining us that day. Thank you for understanding that this is for the safety of all participants.
Highly Recommended items to carry
• Wet weather gear
• Strong and suitable footwear. Trainers may be suitable on some walks but are often not suitable on mountain walks.
Although we encourage anyone to join in and beginners are certainly welcome, please be aware of the fitness level some walks require. If the word ‘Mt’ is in the title its up a mountain and may not be a good starting walk for beginners or people with lower fitness levels. If in doubt start with one of our easier walks and work your way up.
