Friends of Alliance Française d'Atlanta Meetup is for those who love anything French! We do wine tastings, conversation groups, fashion shows, film nights, lectures, art and photo exhibits, concerts... a little bit of everything. We also have ¨French in the City¨ series where we meet up in different places throughout Metro-Atlanta for real-life conversation practice, all while enjoying what the city has to offer :-)

Alliance Française d'Atlanta (http://afatl.com/)school and cultural center plays host to many of these events, as well as special annual events such as the European Wine Festival, Champagne et Chocolat, Salon de Thé, European Day of Languages, Atlanta Francophonie Festival, AfricaBelle, Dîner en Français for AF members, and travel abroad to French speaking countries.

So what is the Alliance Française anyway?

The Alliance Française is an international organization headquartered in Paris, that aims to promote French language and culture around the globe. Created in Paris in 1883, its primary focus is teaching French as an additional language while promoting cultural awareness and events pertaining to France as well as Francophone countries. In 2014, the Alliance has 850 centers in over 130 countries, on five continents.

A member supported non-profit organization, Alliance Française d’Atlanta (http://afatl.com/)is the French-American cultural center serving the Atlanta community as the premier provider of French language and culture since 1912.

Since 1963 the language school has been offering a variety of courses for individuals as well as businesses, including the CDC, CARE, the Carter Center and Delta Air Lines.

Le phénomène GIMS: Discover the artistic genius behind the shades Oct 15, 22, 29

Maître Gims, arguably the biggest current artist in the French-speaking world, is coming to Atlanta on November 1st! From working with English-speaking artists Lil Wayne, Sting, French Montana, and Sia to French-speaking artists Dry, Vianney, Black M, Vitaa, and Slimane, his music plays on radios around the world. Come prepare for his concert by learning more about this international superstar in a three-part series (for all levels) which uncovers the man behind the sunglasses. We will take a journey through his career, his personal life, and of course prepare you to sing along to his biggest hits at the concert. The concert’s opening act and international recording artist DPretty will also make a special guest appearance! Come to class and get 10% off on your concert ticket! Class #2: October 22nd – La Famille Djuna- This middle session explores Gim's talented family. Gims comes from a musically talented family. His father Djanana Djuna is a vocalist of Papa Wemba's band. His brothers Bedjuk, Xgangs, and Dadju are also rappers in their own right, who are often featured in Maître Gims' songs. From The Shin Sekaï to becoming a solo artist like his brother, Dadju has also made a name for himself in the international francophone music industry. Class #3: October 29th – Biggest Hits- This final session will prepare you to sing & shout at the concert by sampling Maître Gims' biggest hits! From "Sapés Comme Jamais" to "J'me Tire" and "Bella," this fun session will not only expose you to music videos, but also help you unpack the meaning behind these songs' lyrics. Special appearance by DPretty, a local francophone artist who will also be performing at the concert! $25 per session or $65 for all three. Register quickly: limited spots available ! About the Teacher: Samuel Vernhes is a focused, bilingual French-American educator. He is passionate about food, art, soccer, and music. He has experience teaching in academic settings and continues to tutor and teach French to children and adults at Alliance Française and Atlanta International School. When teaching, Samuel incorporates his personal and professional experiences to enrich his student’s cultural and linguistic understanding. The growth and success of his students inspires him to continue to teach in the future and dream of potential pedagogical possibilities. About the Special Guest: DPretty is an international recording artist from the Democratic Republic of the Congo in central Africa. Proud husband and father of two, his colorful culture, passion for music and social activism can be found in his lyrics. His dedication to his people is reflected in his non-profit organization, CGA (Congolese Genocide Awareness), which promotes awareness by engaging and mobilizing supporters who can advocate internationally as well as within the Congo. DPretty migrated to the United States 20 years ago and has developed an ear for innovative sounds that integrate his African origin along with modern American music. His musical style is described as Afrobeat with a mix of pop music.

Tell her “I love you!” by bringing a small portrait print of the woman who has influenced you the most in your life, whether it is your mother, your wife, your sister, your neighbor, a good friend… to our Femmes Femmes Femmes exhibition. How does it work ? The portrait print can be up to 6in x 8in and must fit in an 8in x 10in frame. For $10, we will provide you a frame and mount the picture inside to display it in your Roswell Alliance. Merci in advance for supporting your Alliance Française in Roswell!
