DAYTRIP TO SOUTHEND with COASTAL STROLL to LEIGH ON SEA (24.08.19)

Liverpool Street train station (outside ticket office)

The second chance this year to enjoy a daytrip by rail from London to Southend on Sea (which can lay claim to being London's top seaside resort) followed by a beachfront walk to Leigh-on-Sea. First stop en-route will be Southend, where we will have some free time to take advantage of the town with its shops, the sea front, pleasure beach and the longest pier in the world at 1.34 miles. There is often music on the pier from 12 noon. We may also visit Southchurch Park gardens. During this free time we can use The Last Post Wetherspoon’s in the town centre as a base, or for lunch etc. Then at 3.30 pm we will have our costal stroll to Leigh on Sea, where you will also have a chance to visit the town, explore the boat yard, or have a pot of traditional cockles. Or visit the Mayflower for a tasty ice cream or a generous portion of Cod and Chips which we can personally recommend. You will also have the opportunity to visit the Heritage centre, where you will see the very small rooms a family of 10 lived in, interesting photographs and literature on the history of this small fishing village. Or you can simply sit on the decking of the Peter Boat pub looking out to sea with a nice cold beer. There are a few nice pubs here, so plenty of choice for everyone. During our leisurely walk along the sea front we will head to the Cliffs Pavilion for a coffee or beer while taking in the beautiful sea views. Winding back down to the sea front through the cliff gardens to the promenade, we will continue the walk to Leigh on Sea. Itinerary:- 10.00 - Meet at London Liverpool Street Station (Outside ticket office - near Platform 8).
