This training event looks at how the Alteryx Gallery can host your workflows for others to access using a web browser. Understanding what algorithms can and can’t do” In our next Data Book Club event we'll be hearing from David Sumpter - Professor of Applied Mathematics at the University of Uppsala, Sweden about the role of analytics in football and the increasing use of AI in football and beyond. Attendees can choose between two of David's books parts of which will be covered in the talk: Soccermatics (https://www.bloomsbury.com/uk/soccermatics-9781472924124/) which looks at applying mathematical principles from behaviour in biology, physics and economics to football and Outnumbered (https://www.bloomsbury.com/uk/outnumbered-9781472947413/) which deals with the rise of algorithms and what maths can and can't do. About David David Sumpter is Professor of Applied Mathematics at the University of Uppsala, Sweden. Originally from London, but growing up in Scotland, he completed his doctorate in Mathematics at Manchester, and held a Royal Society Fellowship at Oxford before heading to Sweden. His scientific research, including over 100 articles published in Science, PNAS, Current Biology, Proceedings of the Royal Society and a number of other leading journals, covers everything from the inner workings of fish schools and ant colonies, through social psychology and segregation in society, to machine learning and artificial intelligence. His book Collective Animal Behaviour (Princeton University Press book, 2010) is the leading text in the academic field he helped create. In 2015, David started to focus on popular science, writing Soccermatics (Bloomsbury, 2016) and Outnumbered (Bloomsbury, 2018). In addition to the books, David has written a series of articles for The Economist 1843, as well as commissioned articles for The Telegraph, The I-Paper, The Conversation, Prospect, Mathematics Today and FourFourTwo magazine. In 2016 he was awarded the IMA’s Catherine Richards prize for communicating mathematics to a wider audience. David features in two episodes of the major Amazon prime documentary series “This is Football". He has appeared on CNBC, BBC Radio 2 and 4, every major Swedish TV and radio station, several Australian channels and a wide variety of different social media platforms. He has worked with a number of world’s biggest football clubs, advising on analytics, as well as consulting on betting for CBS Sports, Pinnacle and Nordic Bet.
