• WordPress Meetup: Top 5 reasons for a slow WordPress site

The WordPress Helsinki meetup group aims to bring people together of all skill levels, from beginners to WordPress professionals. WordPress Helsinki is purely organised by community volunteers, and operates under the WordPress code of conduct. This month we welcome back Otto Kekäläinen as a speaker. Otto is an experienced speaker, having talked about security and performance at several WordPress meetups and conferences. This time he will tell you about what (most probably) is slowing down your WordPress site. Otto describes his talk as follows: “One can build very fast websites with WordPress, but quite often many WordPress sites end up being rather slow. This talk describes the 5 most common reasons for a WordPress site to be slow and how those issues are best addressed. Based on our experience hosting thousands of WordPress websites at Seravo.com, we have noticed that usually the root cause of slowness is something gone wrong with the WordPress site itself, which can be fixed with a few simple changes. This talk is suitable for all levels of expertise, as it uses simple examples for less technical people all the way to more complex ones, such as using Xdebug and Tideways to solve harder performance issues.” --- Agenda 17:15 – Doors open 17:30 – Opening words 17:40 – Presentation: The 5 most common reasons for a slow WordPress site and how to fix them 19:00 – Drinks & networking at Nordcloud 19:30 – Teerenpeli, Kamppi This session will be in English. Drinks & snacks will be provided by Seravo (https://www.seravo.com). • WordPress Meetup: The Responsibility Process

    Nordcloud

The WordPress Helsinki meetup group aims to bring people of all skill levels together, from beginners to WordPress professionals. WordPress Helsinki is purely organised by community volunteers, and operates under the WordPress code of conduct. This month we are delighted to start hosting talks again and welcome back Elisa Heikura (https://developerhood.com/) as a speaker. While not directly linked to WordPress, she will give an important talk on how our mind works when we take or avoid personal responsibility – which is basically the root cause for most of our problems at work. Elisa describes her talk as follows: “Immediately starting to read The Responsibility Process I was struck by a lightning, run over by a truck and a couple of other this-sh*t-changed-my-life metaphors. I mean seriously: how much time and energy have I wasted feeling angry, frustrated, trapped, burdened, overly stressed and ready to kill a bunch of people? Lots. Waaaaaaay too much. If you prefer reading a book, you can get everything by spending the meetup time diving into The Responsibility Process by Christopher Avery. But if you like stories, enjoy listening to someone telling theirs and wish to get the main points quickly… then I’ll see you next Wednesday.” --- Agenda 17:15 – Doors open 17:30 – Opening words 17:40 – Cannot unsee: The Responsibility Process 19:00 – Drinks & networking at Nordcloud 19:30 – Teerenpeli, Kamppi This session will be in English. • WordPress Meetup: Summer picnic II

    Vltava

Update: due to bad weather forecast we will meet at Vltava next to the railway station. The WordPress Helsinki Meetup group aims to bring together people of all skill levels, from beginners to WordPress professionals. WordPress Helsinki is purely organised by community volunteers, and operates under the WordPress code of conduct. Come and meet like-minded WordPress people outside, as we will have a relaxed outdoor picnic in Kaisaniemi Park on August 7th! This month’s agenda includes coming up with topics for future events, discussing potential speakers and venues for hosting talks and networking with members of the community. We will try to set up camp somewhere close to the tennis courts and share a more detailed location once we find a spot for us. We are probably going to stay there for a while, so don’t worry if you are a bit late. Bring some drinks & snacks (if you’d like to) and preferably something to sit on like a blanket. In case of bad weather, we will meet at Vltava instead, a pub next to the railway station – we will send a message to everyone if that is the case. If you have any questions, leave a comment or contact us directly through the contact form on Meetup.com. Growth is not the easiest route, but it’s what will keep your (or you client’s) business going in this new digital revenue focused landscape. When you get inside, follow the WordPress signs to the downstairs area and you should be able to find us. For those of you who are not attending the conference, you are more than welcome to join us!
