LANGUAGES & FRIENDS is about meeting new friends in town and practicing both English and Spanish as a second language. It is also a great opportunity for those who are new in town to get insider's info on the city, find cool places to go or simply socialize for a night!

The idea is that of bringing together locals and expats through a regular weekly English/Spanish language exchange in a relaxed and friendly environment.

WHY A LANGUAGE EXCHANGE? A language exchange is a wonderful way to learn the real spoken language of the culture with all its "incorrect" grammar, informal expressions and slang. A language exchange is therefore the best training to bridge the gap between classroom learning and communicating in the real world! A language exchange is more effective than the traditional language class because you practice more than you would in a class, talking with native speakers of the language you're learning, in a relaxed and friendly environment where there is patience and time to understand. In a class, there is very little time to practice speaking, because a lot of time is spent on instruction and the class may probably have too many students to give everyone enough time to practice. Also, there is no native speaker except the teacher (if you're lucky). That means you are not used to listening to native speakers and may not be able to understand them. You're probably not learning the informal expressions and slang that native speakers use all the time. You don't learn anything about how the people really "are" in that culture, how they interact, their sense of humor, their values, etc. OTHER GREAT REASONS TO JOIN US! • It's fun and you can make new friends from different cultures • You learn slang and colloquial expressions you don't usually learn in a language class. • There is no homework or boring grammar books to study. • You practice both listening and speaking at the same time. • It's a very fast and effective language learning method • You socialize!
