2018 Year-End Event with Speaker Lainey Feingold
For our A11ySea 2018 year-end event, we're coming together at the Adobe offices to socialize and hear a talk from world-renowned disability rights attorney Lainey Feingold. In her talk, Lainey will provide insights into the legal space for us as accessibility professionals and enthusiasts. We'll have food and drinks, and ample things to discuss. Organizer's note: Please let us know ASAP if you need accommodations in order to join this event. ----- Put the Law in your Pocket: Accessibility Legal Update for Digital Accessibility Professionals, with Lainey Feingold Description: Civil rights laws in the United States provide a strong foundation for supporting digital accessibility efforts in the public and private sectors, in higher education, and throughout society. But with an explosion of lawsuits in the digital accessibility space, are too many organizations are using fear of the law as their primary driver for accessibility? Join us as U.S. disability rights lawyer Lainey Feingold shares an up-to-date report on what’s happening in the digital accessibility legal space. Lainey believes that UX, developers, designers, quality assurance and other digital professionals can put the law in their pockets to advance accessibility. Lainey will share success stories from her book, Structured Negotiation, a Winning Alternative to Lawsuits . Structured Negotiation, is a way to leverage disability rights laws that has been used for more than two decades to advance digital accessibility and inclusive technology with collaboration and relationship-building instead of conflict and run away costs. Bio: Lainey Feingold is a disability rights lawyer focusing on digital access, an international speaker, and the author of Structured Negotiation, A Winning Alternative to Lawsuits. Lainey and her clients in the blind community and colleagues negotiated the first web accessibility agreement in the United States in 2000 (with Bank of America). In 2017 Lainey was named a Legal Rebel by the ABA Journal and was the individual recipient of the John W. Cooley Lawyer as Problem Solver award. Lainey received a California Lawyer Attorney of the Year (CLAY) award in 2000 and 2014 for her digital accessibility and Structured Negotiation legal work. Learn more on her website at www.lflegal.com or follow her on Twitter at www.twitter.com/lflegal. ----- Use of Meeting Fees The proceeds from meeting fees are intended to help offset costs of the meetups such as food, transcription services and other incidental costs. We often look for corporate sponsors for these costs but cannot always secure these for every meetup. Seeking Sponsors and Donations If you have contacts at organizations willing to help sponsor these services, please send them our way. As always, donations are welcome and can be made through the meetup Web site at this address https://secure.meetup.com/a11ysea/contribute/
