Podcast Book Club - "Nocturne"
First of all, what is this event? It's a book club, but for podcasts. Every month, we choose a different show, listen to it independently, then come together to talk about it. - - - - - - This month we're listening to Nocturne, "a hybrid form of audio storytelling that blends elements of documentary, fiction and sound-art." What could be better for the spookiest month than a podcast all about the night? Nocturne is a long-running monthly show. Let's try to listen to the October episode at least (https://nocturnepodcast.org/i-dont-get-lost/) and focus on some of the more recent stuff. If anyone comes across any particularly interesting episodes from the back catalog, please link them in the comments for others to enjoy. I've been meaning to listen to this show for ages. It's won awards and the respect of critics I trust, but for some reason I've never pressed play on an episode. Here's a selection of that positive press for any additional context you might want: https://www.newyorker.com/culture/podcast-dept/nocturne-the-podcast-that-explores-the-night https://www.newyorker.com/culture/2017-in-review/my-best-podcasts-of-2017 https://www.irishtimes.com/culture/tv-radio-web/nocturne-the-dream-you-should-be-having-1.3419551 https://www.wired.com/2016/11/this-week-in-podcasts-november-7/ Possible discussion questions: What does it mean to be about the night? How does the blend of essay, fiction, and sound-art work for you? What do you need to hear/see to get you to try a new podcast in 2018?
