Welcome San Diego Pittie Parents! Together our mission is to end the negative stigma of Pit Bulls and bully breeds by promoting the PAWSitive side of this misunderstood breed. We focus on strengthening the bond between you and your dog to help create a path toward successful Pit Bull Parenting.

We use the term "Pittie" to encompass all dogs that are considered Pit Bull type breeds, such as the American Pit Bull Terrier, American Staffordshire Terrier, American Bully, Bull Mastiff, Mastiff, and so much more... if you have a blocky head and a heart of gold then we want you! **Although we love pitties, we accept all breeds**

We are a community-driven, educational, outreach program made up of by like-minded RESPONSIBLE pet parents and citizens of the community. We are dedicated to creating a united front of Pit Bull Ambassadors regardless of background, breed, or rescue affiliation. We organize outings for members on a regular basis (2-3 events per month) and help create pit-friendly environments for socialization, training, and networking with other Pittie Parents. Some of our events include:

·  Leash & Learn Events

·  Pack Walks & Nature Hikes

·  Fundraising Events

·  Yappy Hours

·  Surf Clinics

·  Beach Bonfires

·  Pittie Potlucks

·  Our Annual "Pitties in the Park" Event in October... and so much more!

We support several local bully rescues however do not affiliate with one single group above another. Our members understand that their pet is a LIFETIME commitment and we do not post information about dogs who need to be re-homed. Understandably there are circumstances that arise when a family can no longer keep a pet, or maybe you’re looking to add to your pit-friendly household. If so, please reach out to us and we can offer contacts for local rescue groups and organizations that may be able to help.

One of our core beliefs is the vital need to spay and neuter our pets. San Diego shelters are overrun by the homeless pet epidemic, in order to help relieve the overpopulation of homeless dogs and to educate our family and friends, we only allow members with altered dogs to participate in our social events. If you would like more information on where to get your dog spayed or neutered at low cost, please contact  Animal Welfare Foundation (www.awfsandiego.org). We DO NOT support breeding of any kind and will ban any member who advertises the breeding, selling, or fighting of dogs.

We ask that all members actively participate - we are always open to ideas for new Meetup events, so please get involved! We ask that members please consider making a taxable donation (recommended $10 annually) to help maintain our meetup.com page and to allow us to provide supplies for upcoming events (bottled water, poop bags, yellow ribbons, informational flyers, and event equipment). 100% of your money is put back into the group. We also welcome monthly contributions to help fund our largest ongoing project: Our "Pitties in the Park" annual October Pit Bull Awareness Day Celebration.

Founded in 2008, this group was formerly called “The SD Pit Bull Meet Up Group” and over the years has transitioned from “San Diego Pit Bull Lovers!” to its current status as "San Diego Pittie Parents". In 2015 the torch was handed to Kristin Porter and Jolene Figueroa and as of June 2015 "Pittie Parents" became a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization (EIN #47-4448060).
