• Vitalik Buterin presents @ Ethereum London Meetup at Imperial!
▁ ▂ ▄ ▅ [VITALIK BUTERIN @ ETHLDN] ▅ ▄ ▂ ▁ In addition to our monthly Ethereum London meetups, we have a very special event as Ethereum's creator Vitalik Buterin, Founder and Chief Science Officer at Ethereum Foundation, presents his vision for the future of blockchains. Blockchains: from dreams to reality Historically, we have talked about blockchains often in the abstract, focusing on ideals like censorship resistance, permissionless innovation, openness, freedom, decentralization, autonomous cooperation, and that all-important word "trust". But outside of a few narrow categories of applications, appeals to these high-minded values have often been shot down by a simple retort: why can't I just build this thing on a server, throw up some Merkle proofs if people really want them, and get the same result? I aim to go beyond abstract platitudes, and dig deep into what specific properties blockchains can give that existing tech (eg. boring old cryptography) does not, and describe a pragmatic vision for why mainstream society and even institutions uninterested in censorship resistance should be interested in them. Spaces for this event are limited so make sure to RSVP as soon as possible (Those who aren't able to book a ticket will be placed on a waiting list). ▁ ▂ ▄ ▅ [ LINKS ] ▅ ▄ ▂ ▁ Twitter and post your pictures: #ETHLDN (https://twitter.com/search?f=tweets&vertical=default&q=%23ETHLDN&src=typd) Find out more about Vitalik: http://github.com/vbuterin http://reddit.com/u/vbuterin https://twitter.com/VitalikButerin ▁ ▂ ▄ ▅ [ REGULAR SPONSORS ] ▅ ▄ ▂ ▁ This meetup is made possible thanks to our sponsors: Atlas Neue (http://www.atlasneue.com/), the Centre for Cryptocurrency Research and Engineering at Imperial College (http://www.imperial.ac.uk/cryptocurrency and CryptoCompare.com (https://www.cryptocompare.com/) ▁ ▂ ▄ ▅ [ SCHEDULE ] ▅ ▄ ▂ ▁ Everyone is required to stay outside the lecture room until ushered in by our volunteers—no exception.
