Photo Walkabout / Napa Mustard Time

It's pretty unanimous.. Napa! We'll meet in Yountville in the parking lot of V Marketplace. You will have several nice photo opps here before we even get going. I will be there at 10:OO AM to hand out a map and give you some ideas on locations to check out. We'll then meet at 12:30 at Sattui Winery right off Hwy 29 for lunch, click here for directions. Please note: If you join us at Sattui Winery, you can buy yourself a sandwich at the Deli there. You cannot bring your own lunch (you will asked to leave by the winery, not by me..). We should have a great afternoon of shooting the Napa Valley!

Walkabouts are BACK! So for those of you who have a weekday to goof off, here's a little incentive to get out there and practice your photographic skills. Join me every four weeks or so on a Photo Walkabout, and we'll visit a different location every month. Here's how it works... when you RSVP (and you must RSVP to vote and get the updates), you will submit an idea on where you might like to go and shoot for that month. Everyone will have a chance to vote on the submitted ideas via email. Then, after the voting closes, the TIME and LOCATION will be posted. It will be posted a few days before the meetup so that you all will know ahead of time where we will be going. Plan to have lunch with us and talk shop. The weather or the season could even dictate what we want to shoot. Either way, the plan shouldn't take us farther than an hour or so away in any given direction. Remember, this will repeat about every four weeks, so if you can't make it to one, do the next one! Remember, time and location to be determined! (10:00 a.m. is just a default setting) Sound interesting? Come along and find out!

Hi all, I am planning to go back to hit some areas people told me about, specifically Castello di Amorosa. I heard there was another castle style winery in that area. Can anyone who is familiar with shooting locations in that area suggest other cool places. I told my wife and daughter they need to see that place. Thanks!

Hi Matt; I'm Suzanne and the one who gave you the map of the Napa Valley Wineries. Sterling is the other castle-like Winery that is right across Hwy 29 from Castello Di Amorosa. You must purchase tram-ride tickets up to the winery. I have not done this, but it looks like an excellent experience. Hope you and your family have a great day!

Laura, were u able to carpool? Would love if next time I could possibly do the same :)..maybe we can get a group of women together from our area??

      March 3, 2013

    • Rebecca

It would be my first meetup visit with this group, so would totally understand people being leery of carpooling w/ someone they don't know...thought maybe if we did get a group, we could all meet up for coffee sometime to meet? Just a thought :)

Once you select your photos from your desktop, you should see an 'upload' button. If the photos are not uploading, you can choose to use the old uploader. Not sure which browser you are using, but if that still does not work, you may have to try using a different browser, like google or firefox. Let me know if it is not working for you.

There is currently free live photoshop training online at Creativelive.com. This is day 5, but there is one more day. Really good information for anyone that wants to learn a few additional techniques.

continued. . .Is this re PS CS6? I use CS5 and no Lightrm. How much of the week would be advantageous for me? Or how do I contact "them" to find out?

      March 1, 2013

    • Jacalyn E.

I don't have Lightroom right now either, but the workshops are touching on a lot of applications with each one incorporating discussions on Photoshop, and cover or offer info on applications and/or downloads, some of which are free. While they encourage upgrading to CS6, a lot of the applications still apply to CS4 and 5, and they will differentiate where applications don't apply. I have learned a ton. Today is the last day, and I have switched back between the two. If for example it goes into a program I don't have or know I won't be purchasing, I click over to the other training. Two run simultaneously.

Thanks Jan for putting together another great meetup!! The map locations were very helpful. The yellow mustard was in abundance throughout the Napa Valley. I enjoyed the picnic lunch at V. Sattui and being able to reconnect with old friends and meet some new ones.

Jan, since I live in Napa, can I meet all of you at the Target store at the intersection of Hwy 29 and Trancas? There is a Starbucks inside the Target and a Peets in the Bel Aire Plaza strip mall. I can carry 2 to 3 passengers with me. This location is only about 10 to 20 minutes south of the Yountville Marketplace. Call me with a time, please. Wednesday is soo much better than a weekend day. The traffic going up valley on the weekends is crazy busy.

    February 26, 2013

    • Suzanne G. C.

I'm already at Target if anyone else would like to ride with me. Harvey is about 15 minutes away and I am waiting for him.

      Cell phones are sooo cool.

      February 27, 2013

  • Harvey A.

BTW, Sunset at 6:01pm and moonrise at 7:25pm, although this is at horizon and time depends on where you are in the valley.

Sooo... I do need to take the time off if we're doing our thing in Napa. I'll have to pass on the Pt. Reyes idea. Are we closer to deciding where we're going?

    February 25, 2013

    • Matt M.

Luckily, I'm the boss so taking time isn't a big deal. I'm just curious where we're at with that.

I need to photograph the Las Vegas lights at night. Also the Parks
outside Vegas are mind blowing! I want to do Highway 1 from Eureka to San Diego!!

    February 25, 2013

  • PATRICK

Hi Tom, I see your in Vallejo not much of a drive for you, I'm east of Sacramento. At least pick a day with big surf and storm not a spring day with a white sky.I love the ocean also but I'm photographing that day.Going for ocean or photographs? From your tone you may have many already. To be honest it's a long drive for you comming to Sacramento parking is hard and a ticket is 54.00. Maybe new idea, take a train to Las Vagas.

Rachelle, What is boring? Pt Reyes or the Mustart Fields

      A former member

Pt Reyes. That's of course a personal opinion. I feel as if there isn't much to actually shoot there as maybe other locations. It's a long drive for little.

      February 25, 2013

    • Tom

It is a long drive. I do love the Ocean.

      February 25, 2013

  • PATRICK

maybe Jan could split the group into three. It's hard to be any place at first light and Pt Reyes you need that time.Mustard fields it's been cold and of last saturday many of the other fruit tree and wild flower still early.I HAVE SEEN MANY PHOTOGRAPHS OF THE SAME BLUE TIN BARN A RED BARN.send us out and see what we find all the same 24hrs. cheers PAT
