Tomorrow Hikes ...and more options for walking this Summer on Meet Up

Hello all,

Good to finally see promise of some fine weather coming soon. . Met weather service predicts a hot summer with very little rain over most of the country .

It was a really fantastic turnout last Saturday for the Underground Walking at Nikau Caves and Cafe visit with over 40 from here going. Despite a few getting muddy and wet knees, most were planning to go back with family and friends. Always gratifying when folk are seeing areas for the first time.

If you missed it, be sure to visit them individually over summer. They take bookings for 2-3 people and are really not a tourist thing, just down to earth, and you'll be happy you went. See there website for photos and info and how to get there www.nikaucave.co.nz

Overnight camping is also available this summer if you want to stay , just ask Phillip there for more details, if phoning,  and  a toilet is located close by , and a stream to swim in and you can dine in the cafe at night to eat some great food at country prices and indulge in a wine or a local beer!

Meanwhile I hope this has been a happy year for you if you're new to tramping and hiking  or wanting some great outdoor walking reasons to meet new friends . Auckland has such a big variety of tracks to explore in its many parks, and with many outdoor guide books available in shops , there's something for everyone to explore.

On more of a personal note, there are some changes happening for me early next year, as I'm almost certain to be leaving Auckland late  January, as I've applied to do some full time study  in the South Island, and that will affect the organizing of these events.  However after more than two years on here, I know I will be leaving this group in safe hands, as there are many experienced people to take over, more on that later when my plans are confirmed soon.

Remember if you're new to Meet Up and love getting outdoors, there are about 6 hiking groups operating in Auckland.

Some of the bigger ones are Auckland Hiking, also led by another Stephen . His group appeals to those wanting to do more out of Auckland, which I don't do much, and so a lot of people of this group belong. They have a huge range of activities planned for summer, so check them out, if there's no events planned on this group. This weekend they are at Whatipu and are camping overnight.

Other meet ups include Traverse Tramping with Kevin and Mid Week Hikes with Will, both popular walking groups.

Meanwhile ...If you wanted to go on a short hike tomorrow, at the Hunua Ranges, Claire from our sister meet up group is leading a EVENT called the Wairoa Loop for 3-4 hours.

Check it out .  Intrepid Adventures which is a slower paced walking group.

They have quite a few events on now, including a mid week walk Wednesdays led by Relinde and Sue.

Please click on the following for more details www.meetup.com/Intrepid-Adventure-Outdoors-Social-Group/

My last hike I will be leading this year, ....will be a special trip to visit the remote Anawhata Beach again....and Cannibal Creek Waterfalls  on Saturday 15th  starting from Piha Beach.

After we'll have a pre-Xmas party at Piha cafe ..., so hopefully if you have that date free, you are invited .

Happy Tramping, and I hope to see you on the tracks again soon.

If not, have a happy safe Christmas and a New Year  whatever you do .

Arohanui.
