Meet up website fees etc

To all our hikers/members,

Did you know that this meet up hiking group started in 2010 ? .

We limit the number of members that come out on our hiking events, so that you get a different bush walking experience, than other hiking groups, and as these are personally can learn something about the trees, the plants, the history of the area we walk in , or ask questions etc, or get to know other regular  members each time you come out.

In the four years that I have been leading and organising these Meet Ups, assisted by Mike , and Frank, and a few others , we have had several name changes, but I like to think, we have still retained the  smaller group bush walking experience , that members of this group enjoy.

Up until now we have been asking for a gold coin 'donation'
on some hikes to help cover the costs of the site, cell phone calls etc, when events are
organised for you.

For those that don't realise, all Meetup groups ( and there are over 300 in Auckland ) and with 9 million members worldwide in over 40 countries....All the Organisers, have to pay fees through the year to the USA based Meetup company in NY in American dollars.

Some Organisers of other Meet Up groups do not inform their
members of the website costs etc, and pay the fees themselves, as they choose
to run their groups that way and maybe that's because, they  have big personal work incomes.

However, that's not the position I'm in, and so within our group over the last four years…we have greatly appreciated those of you that have been generous and donated, $2 or more, at each event they come out on.
However an increased number of people have been choosing not to give a gold
coin ‘donation’, and that affects these relaxed, unhurried style of guided events this group stands for.

Therefore…As we are moving into the busy summer season with lots of people
wanting to come out on our limited number hiking events, I feel this is unfair and have decided we will
charge $2 for everyone each time you come out on a hike/event.

This will be in place until the end of this year, when further changes to the way this hiking group operates,  will come about in Jan 2014,  with an individual pre-pay guiding fee being introduced for each event, I lead... you come on.. as I'm now official again as of this month, with Auckland Council, as an approved Hiking Guide.. More about this in the New Year.

Meanwhile, $2 for a day out hiking in the Waitakere Ranges and other Auckland Regional Parks is cheap and should not impact on any individual but will ensure the organisers are not paying out of their own pockets.
