Announcing a new Meetup for Feet First - Hiking & Outdoor Adventures in Auckland!

Labour Weekend Camping and Hiking Adventure - Hunua Ranges- Plus Miranda Hot Pools at Night and dinner at Kaiaua Fish and Chip shop.

What -  Feet First Labour Weekend - Saturday and Sunday Night -

Camping and Tramping and Socializing Weekend.


When-  Saturday 24th October from 12pm onwards to Monday 26th October.



PLEASE READ ALL THE DETAILS OF THIS EVENT AND ANSWER THE RSVP QUESTIONS WHICH CAN ONLY BE SEEN BY THE LEADERSHIP TEAM.

BE SURE TO BOOK YOUR TENT SITE ASAP AS BOOKINGS ARE LIMITED - SEE DETAILS BELOW.

THIS SPECIAL SOCAIL HIKING AND CAMPING  EVENT IS ONLY OPEN FOR THOSE MEMBERS STAYING ONE OR TWO NIGHTS .


Where -    Waharau Regional Park-  Hunua Ranges - Near Miranda Hot Pools



Highlights  -       Base  Camping and Day hikes in the area over two days  - Including Hot Pools and Fish n Chips at Kaiaua in the Evening . Visit to Miranda Shorebird Centre and other planned activities.



Campground is in large paddock , it has hot showers, flush toilets, covered cooking facilities.  Safe parking with your car next to your tent.  Locked gate entry/exit.

Aprrox   90 mins drive from Auckland.

Feet First Members Only - No guests - Get them to join us .

Bring - Personal Gear including a Torch . Towels and togs. Footwear. Musical Instrument -  Outdoor games- Frisbee or Ball etc .



Hiking Gear for two days - Camping Equipment- Tent/Sleeping Bag-  Overnight clothing- Food for breakfast/lunch that doesn't require refrigeration. ( Evening Meals will be Fish n Chips at Kaiaua ).




When -  Saturday 24th October from 12pm onwards to Monday 26th to 2pm.

Where - On the Eastern Side of the rugged Hunua Ranges , Waharau extends from the range to the coast with views over the Firth of Thames and The Coromandels.


Cost is prepay $15 per adult/ person, per night of camping - Two nights- $30 each. You will get a gate code to open it .

Booking dates - Saturday Oct 24th and Sunday Oct 25th .

State the Booking is for Waharau Regional Park- Tainui Campround . Hunua Ranges.

You must give Auckland Council Staff your address and an email to confirm booking etc on the phone when making booking. .

You need to pay by a Debit or Credit Card . Payment takes around ten minutes.

Manual Bookings by Eftpos only can be made in person at Auckland Council Service Office - Monday to Friday - 24 Wellesely St. by Aotea Centre and Movie Theatre etc.

Limited camping spaces available-  Be sure to Book asap-

NB- Refunds available within 48hrs or a credit will be given against your account for future camping if you cannot get a ride.


Basic Plan of Labour Weekend -

Saturday - 11am onwards - Arrive Waharau Regional Park  -Tainui Campground - Set up tents- Relax - Mix and Mingle.

Saturday 2pm - Carpool - Visit to Miranda Shorebird Centre-


Home to migratory birds which stop here during various times of the year. The Visitor Centre is great for bird lovers and we'll do a short walk to large bird hide 20 mins walk away to see birds feeding ,  on the coastal wetlands nearby . We might see some Godwits which have started arriving having flown 11,500 km non stop.



Explore Local Seaside .

Saturday - 5pm - Miranda Hot Pools Visit.  Followed by dinner at Kaiaua Fish n Chips shop or nearby Kaiaua Tavern for food and beer etc.



Saturday - 8pm  - Approx return to Campground .  Socialise - Mix and Mingle - Sing songs - Play outdoor games-  Sleep in your tent.





Sunday -  Wake up to nature  - Hot Shower - Breakfast - Make Lunch for Hike .

10 am Prepare for Day Hike - Waharau Ridge Loop - 5 hours

Evening visit to Miranda Hot Pools - Fish n Chips etc for dinner at Kaiaua.

Return to Campground - 2nd night overnight camping .

Monday Morning -  Breakfast - Explore local parks - Pack up and head back to Auckland.






How to get there -

Waharau Regional Park- is 90 mins drive from Auckland City. Drive south on State Highway 1 then left turn onto  State Highway 2 as if going to Coromandels.  Turn left onto Mangatangi Road then take Kaiaua Road to Kaiaua on the coast. Turn left onto East Coast Road and then the Waharau Regional Park is about 1km past Pukekereu Lane. Entrance to Camping Ground is on left at gate  before Info Centre.
