Visiting Guest at HSGP: Tom Flynn presents 'The Trouble with Christmas'

This is not an official FFRF event, and you are cordially invited to join the Humanist Society of Greater Phoenix for this special guest speaker--join us for breakfast too!

Tom Flynn presents The Trouble with Christmas

Tom Flynn is the executive director of the Counsel for Secular Humanism and the editor of Free Inquiry Magazine.

He has been recounting the history of the year-end holidays and offering his rollicking rationale for why secular humanists should just sit out the merriment since his book The Trouble with Christmas was published in 1993.

Tom has reconceived his talk as a lavish PowerPoint presentation. He’ll probe where our most treasured holiday traditions came from — from the Christ Child to Santa Claus, from the wassail bowl to the tannenbaum — and ask whether there’s still time to send them all back. Don’t miss it!

The Humanist Society of Greater Phoenix presents its Sunday Speaker meetings twice a month on Sunday mornings.

We enjoy the company of our fellow Humanists and a lecture from a guest speaker and topic discussion ending by 11:30 a.m. Our meetings are free and open to anyone who is interested in learning more about Humanism, or in hanging out with us for the morning.

Breakfast is offered for sale to members and guests for $5.00. For coffee only, the charge is $1.00. If you would like to have coffee and/or food, please pay at the welcome desk by the entrance door. Of course, donations are always gratefully accepted as well.
