The meeting was great. Is anyone intrested in my new movie opening up next month "Olympus Has Fallen"? I worked on it for a couple of months last year. It stars Gerard Butler, Morgan Freeman, Ashley Judd and Angela Basset I can talk about working w/ the great director Antoine Fuqua, who directed it, who also did "Training Day". Also this month I have "Bullet to the Head", w/ Sylvester Stallone opening up. Last month I had "Broken City", starring Mark Wahlberg and Russell Crowe open up nation wide. I am a professional stuntman, been in the business for over 25 years. This week I am working w/ Will I Am (Black Eyed Peas) on a music video for the NBA all star game.

And Ray, good job man. You have been making it happen, and you been keeping folks together, so hats of to you. If no one has said thank you, I'm saying it now, thank you!

New people there have no respect for the short films being displayed. Also there was a coumputer in the back that had loud speckers playing some film while the short films were playing and while speaking about their films! That was very inconsiderate!!

I spoke with him in December said he would try to be at the meeting in Jan. didn't make it. You can email him of the website. I don't think he will agree to anything where we have to charge to be there.

This was a good event, I met a couple of awesome new fellow hobbyists! Thanks to everyone who showed support.

My main gripe, aside from the usual issue with poor sound, is that we seem to have some... Members? random people?... who can't seem to KEEP THEIR F*CKING MOUTHS SHUT AND WATCH THE DAMN FILMS. You joined the Houston *FILM* Industry meetup... Is it really that much of a stretch to just SHUT UP and RESPECT THE ART? Or at least SHUT UP and let other members watch the films? Or if you need to talk, go the F*CK out to the main bar area, and yack to your heart's content? IS IT REALLY THAT MUCH OF A STRETCH???

I'm not going to point any fingers, but the inconsiderate BASTARDS know themselves. I'm not sure if they're actual members or what, but we really need a bouncer or security at these events... when it's film screening time, people need to either SHUT THE F*CK UP, or simply leave the area!!!

Sorry about the profanity, but I am sure you understand my frustration.

We seriously need to do something about the sound system. I was trying to make announcements that people could have benefited from and was just being ignored. It rude and it was not just happening to me. The people who were snubbing those on the mic lost out on a lot of valuable information.

The films were good, but I agree with the noise level and distractions at the venue. I also realize we can't tell Fox & Hound to change how they are running the joint.
I explored other venues for a different group. El Real is a good choice. Christies sea food, Little Napoli and 3 othes in the same area previously had available rooms, which they were willing to lend in return for orders. (Please buy something even if you aren't starving or don't want to get drunk!)
For a reasonable fee 9990 Richmond lets out meeting rooms. HFI could bring in snacks and charge a fee. Ditto for 14 pews which supports documentry films.
The films could be shown 1 at a time allowing disscussion and networking between each short.

      I hope you'll look for FREE stuff/places/etc.
FREE stuff is what we need/want.
      Money involves headaches/security/etc/etc.
Lots of us are busy surviving.
Leave caterers out of this unless they want to do it for no charge/Credit.
Lets go the FREE route until we cannot. ;)

I am a first timer and I didn't know the agenda of this meetup before visiting. It was a good experience meeting with so many folks. Congratulations to all the makers and crew of the screened films. This is my humble suggestion. I agree with most of the comments on speaker sound quality and ambient noise. In my opinion, public bars and pubs are never a good place to have any kind of decent conversation, let alone screening films. Anyways, places with segregated lobby for people to chat and closed door screening facility for shows will be more appropriate. Perhaps something like club houses in decent apartment complexes. Or a college or shool class room/seminar halls. Even if it is paid facility, $5 a head won't be bad. I guess, for those who take Filming seriously, it won't be a bother not to have food/drink facilities at the venue. Just a thought.

Eric, that's a suggestion... it would be nice if they posted their fees though.

Ray, my suggestion would be a "nominal" charge, like $5 per family. That's less than the cost of a full on Starbucks coffee. If someone can't spare $5 a MONTH, then I'm not sure they're really interested in being an active part of the group anyway. Just my thoughts. I hope Randy sees this.

    Krista,

You are such a beautiful person I'm almost positive no one hates you, but then again I can only speak for myself, and personally, I love you!!!! :) Besides you where not around when that computer started playing the film. It was strange how it just stated playing by it self! I really don't think it was intentional. I saw one guy there and he could have turned it down but he seem to preoccupied with trying to impressed some girl he was talking to!!
Thanks for your wonderful prayer that I will never forget!!!!

    God Bless you!

As somebody who drops in every so often -- this venue compared to the last place (Skerlocks) is a complete joke. Its not really a "meet" up -- more like a free for all.

  • Mark C.

Hey guys, thanks for doing all you can. The speaker and sound system helped out so much more this time. Up until the guy in the back was blaring his music, very rude. We heard him talk about his film last month, no need to push it on folks now. You had your turn, now give others the floor. I know you are doing the best you can, but a place to screen the films, and a place for others to mix and mingle, and have the 2 separated, that way those that can talk they won't bother the others. Other than that, good to see everyone.

It's true the times listed are from 7 to 9 but in fact we can stay until the place closes at 1am. We say 7 to 9 because they will not let children in after 9 but they can stay if they are already there.

This is my first time. I have been hunting for a good film forum in houston, to fulfill my ambition. How does this work? Is it formal or casual? Do people talk about different projects they are working on? Is there a fee or something.

Hello, I've just joined the group but besides a 44 year love affair with film and its infinite potential I've little more than this to offer. I do have a brother who works in LA for a non-profit called FilmLA that handles permits and he's schooled me on the complexities of state film incentives and such. I may be out of my league with having nothing other than good cheer and quirkiness to contribute...I consume film, to be frank. Is this enough?
