Silverlake Book Club

Silverlake Book Club

Welcome to Silver Lake Book Club!

WHAT WE DO: We meet the first Wednesday of every month at 7:30 pm to discuss an awesome book over drinks.

WHO SHOULD JOIN: People who love to read + imbibe + make attempts at intelligent literary conversations. On average, most members are ages 25-45, but ALL age groups are welcome, provided you are 21+ (because most of our Meetups take place at a bar). You don’t have to live in Silver Lake to attend!

WHO’S HOSTING: We’re Jim & Krista. If you’ve been coming to the club for a long time, you probably remember the former hosts, Olivia and Elise. We took it over from them in 2019, and we’re excited to keep this club going!

HOW IT WORKS: The Thursday after each Meetup, we’ll post a poll for you all to vote on the book for an upcoming month. You guys have until that Sunday at 12 am to vote! That Monday, we’ll officially announce the selection. [Have a book you’d like to nominate to be a part of the poll? Bring your suggestion in person to the Meetup.]

PRETTY PLEASE NOTE: There are 200+ members in this group, and for now, we’re capping the attendees to 15 for each event (because, er, any larger than that and shit gets complicated), so if you RSVP and cannot make it, we ask that you give the group 24 hours’ notice so that someone else can have your spot.

OTHER STUFF: If you want to share something for the whole group to see (like, “Hey, where can I find a cheap copy of this month’s book?”), post a comment. If you have a question or comment just for the hosts, message Krista directly for a speedier reply.

Hope to see you all there :)

The LA Girly Book Club

Los Angeles, CA

The LA Girly Book Club

New to LA? Or just want to discuss great books with like-minded friends? The concept is simple. We’re a global book club for likeminded women to discuss great books! All members of the book club read the same book over the same period; members then meet up in their respective cities at the end of each month to discuss the book and exchange views. This forum provides a rare, and relaxed atmosphere for women to meet other like-minded women over a glass of wine and share a common passion.

Check out our home site to find out more about how we are taking over the world - one book at a time!

3 strikes RSVP policy: Please note if you RSVP for an event three times without changing your RSVP and you "no show" OR if you cancel less than 24 hours before an event without notice 3 times, you unfortunately will be removed from the group (unless you have a really good excuse). The hosts and myself put a lot of time and effort into planning events so please be courteous and do not take any other group members spot and then not show up. We give you 3 chances because, well, *ish happens!

Los Angeles Gay Lady Book Club

**Resuming in person meetings in July. I might do a hybrid by request.**

Hi! We would love to meet-up with you! Please read the following info to make sure this is a good fit for you:

Books: I pick books based on what's currently top picks, classics, and group choices. I also try to give more focus to queer and poc authors. Whenever possible, I invite authors to come over for an exclusive in-person Q&A. I make sure to pick books that are available as hard copy, Kindle and Audio Version. Yes, you should read (or listen to) the book before coming to the meet-up to discuss ;)

Women: If you identify as a woman and GLBTQ+, you are welcome to join.

Schedule and Info: We meet the last Tuesday of every month from 7:30-9:30pm at [your private residence bc it's all on zoom.] The evening schedule is as follows: 7:30-8pm mix and mingle, 8-9:30ish discussion, and 9:30-10:30pm is Book Club After Dark for more socializing.

I will also cross-promote other meet-ups that are queer and literary themed throughout LA.

A Little History About GLBC:

I started it in August 2011 in my living room and it's been going strong ever since! In addition to great conversations, creating a safe space for queer women and fabulous cheese plates, we've been responsible for long-lasting friendships, business connections, heated debates and even two marriages!

Reasons I wanted to start the LA Gay Lady Book Club: 1) Clearly a need! 2) I have lots of friends who read books and I want to read books with them; 3) I want to meet other book-loving, vag-loving womyn!! Lez read some books, womxn!

Joining Book Club:

We have only 2 requirements. 1). Please have at least one face pic uploaded or you will not be approved to join the book club! 2). Also, we tend to fill up rather quickly, and life happens, so if you have RSVP'ed Yes and can't make it please change your RSVP to No so that someone else can have your spot.

Thank you and I look forward to reading and enjoying books with you soon!
