- Planting a Seed Garden
The time to start thinking about saving seeds in the fall is in the spring! In this presentation designed for the backyard gardener, you will learn about the fundamentals of preparing and planting in order to collect seeds to save for the following years. Seed saving is not only fun, but it is one of the keys to sustainable gardening practices.
Among other things, you will learn:
-The difference between hybrid, heirloom, and open pollinated seeds
-Plant population size for collecting seed
-Role of pollinator habitat in your garden
-How to make your garden and yard a pollinator sanctuary
-Participating in seed exchanges and other opportunities for continued learning
About the instructor:
Forest Gray is a backyard gardener who resides in Fargo. She is passionate about heirloom and indigenous plants and uses sustainable, veganic gardening practices. She has been trained through the Seed Savers Exchange (Iowa) Seed Saving School and is North Dakota's only listed member of the Seed Savers Exchange's international seed saving network.

This year, for our 15th annual Gentle Thanksgiving, let FMVeg help you celebrate with a Twist! Because of the pandemic, we are choosing to outsource the cooking, and letting you pick up your own meal to go!
The twist is that "Twist" Restaurant in downtown Fargo will be providing a gourmet dish for the first 40 people who have RSVPed and made a suggested $10 donation to FMVeg.
If you have RSVP'd and made a donation, come into Twist to pick up your food between 1:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday, November 24th and tell them your name (which will be on the FMVeg Gentle Thanksgiving list).

- Virtual Veganic Garden Tour
In the year following the founding of FMVeg, the First Annual FMVeg Garden Tour took place. For almost a decade, every summer three different veganic gardens were featured on the tour, followed by a potluck. This was trimmed down to a one-stop garden tour and food-and-games party for the last few years. So what to do now, with COVID? A virtual garden tour!
This one-hour live streaming event will feature the garden of Forest Gray. This spontaneous tour will evolve from the cell-phone filming and interview magic of Kathleen Keene (FMVeg's primary organizer) and questions by viewers in the video streaming thread.
Forest Gray is a backyard gardener who resides in Fargo. She is passionate about heirloom and indigenous plants. She is a seed-saving educator trained through the Seed Savers Exchange (Iowa) and is North Dakota's only listed member of the Seed Savers Exchange's international seed saving network. Forest Gray utilizes a variety of composting strategies, uses organic and cruelty-free gardening practices, and protects and develops pollinator habitats throughout her property. Her garden includes vegetables, herbs, fruits, and flowers.
Everyone who RSVPs and stays for the whole event, will be entered to win a door prize from Field Roast, including a branded t-shirt, apron, and a pilsner glass!
- FMVeg Virtual Shindig!
During this time, we gotta get creative to socialize! |
Let's eat (our own) good vegan snacks and beverages, talk about whatever, and maybe play a game! You can download the Zoom app either on your phone, computer, or laptop!
