Mosque Tour

What better way to get to know our Muslim neighbors than going straight to the source. This will be a tour of the mosque with a Q&A afterwards. They would like a headcount days before the date, so please be sure of attendance before you rsvp. For more information about the Islamic Center of Irving go to: http://outreach.irvingmasjid.org/

Thanks I found him on Facebook =) I sent a friend request. Also found on FB a few times they talked about us (atheists) attending the Mosque from various FB pages.

Thank you, Julio. This was an excellent outing for us...educational, interesting and informative. We also enjoyed the fellowship of friends who attended and the polite friendliness of our hosts. We were greeted cordially and all questions were answered thoughtfully. We went to the restaurant next door afterward and enjoyed a wonderful meal. Thanks, again!

I'm bringing my son (9) and daughter (6). I hope it will be an enlightening experience for all of us. I have never been in a mosque. I try to expose them to lots of different religions to balance their nearly exclusively Mormon upbringing so far. I have been to a few Fellowship meetings and really enjoyed them. Thanks!

Yes Children are welcome at the Mosque =) I made a FAQ of some of the questions that I got asked in the comments below also.

      1 · January 27, 2014

  • Julio R.

I contact the mosque based on some of the more FAQ that I didn't have an answer for or a clear answer. Posting them here for those that wanted to know.

Thank you for the questions. Yes we usually ask that men and women dress modestly, usually meaning wear long loose clothing. For the other questions--

    1. Yes is okay if people bring children with them, we just ask that if the baby/child does cry, if the parent and step momentarily out of the room with the child to calm them.

    2. Yes it's okay for individuals to wear atheist t-shirts if they choose, as long as there are no overtly offensive terms disrespecting others religions.

    3. During the prayer we might separate men and women to observe the prayer in the respective prayer halls if the crowd is large, otherwise we will be in room downstairs where all can watch the prayer in the same room.

    4. Yes ex-Muslims who are now atheists can attend the tour.

I replied +2, but want to make it +3.. School age children welcome?

    January 21, 2014

    • Julio R.

Yeah it's not a problem. I went there a few months ago and there were kids of all ages running around so it's a family friendly environment =)

Adding to the FYI: we will be required to remove shoes or wear shoe coverings, and that women will not be required to cover their heads but headscarves will be available.
