New Meetup: Sababa Middle Eastern Grill

From: Mike
Sent on: Wednesday, August 25, 2010 10:54 PM
I just posted another FoodBurgh meetup. This time: Sababa Grill in Squirrel Hill.

What: Sababa Middle Eastern Grill
When: Wednesday, September 22,[masked]:00 PM

This is just an announcement to mark your calendars. You won't be able to sign up for the event until 10 days prior. When we get to the 10-day mark, you can sign up on the event page on

If you don't frequent Murray Avenue, then there's a good chance you completely missed the previous establishment at 2121: Mr. Willie's Barbecue. It had been the kind of place that I wanted to succeed when they first showed up, but they seemed to face constant difficulty in execution. Truth be told, I was never really able to bring myself to even give them a try.

Fast forward beyond the brief stay of Willie's. When I first noticed someone new moving into the vacant space, I was excited but a little weary. The signage almost tipped me off as a place that might become some cookie-cutter chain. Turns out, that perception was completely wrong. Sababa Grill is a family owned little shop that just aims to present their version of Middle Eastern cuisine. The manager pointed to Aladdin's as being largely Lebanese, with his own cuisine showing off a more Turkish/Syrian perspective. Whatever the source, I definitely enjoyed my first visit...and have heard much praise for their falafel.

Details: FoodBurgh / Urbanspoon

This one is another BYOB establishment, so be sure to bring along your beverage of choice. I know at the Aviva outing, several people brought growlers or mix-n-match 6-packs to share. That inspired some good conversation and an opportunity to sample a few different beers than we're used to. Feel free to do the same for this event.

Looking forward to seeing a good handful of members there!
