McAfee Knob Trailhead | Foraging Berries

Details
Meeting spot: https://g.co/kgs/H3BEu3R
What to bring:
Clothes appropriate for going off the trail a bit. (Jeans will be hot but will protect your legs from the blackberry bushes- make the decision that is best for yourself.)
Some sort of bag or basket for gathering
Optional:
Phone with plant identification app
Field guide resources (I am using Southeast Foraging by Chris Bennett)
Pen and journal
I will teach my methods of identification, review the rules of foraging, and point out familiar plants and their uses. We will also work together to identify new plants- building our knowledge as a team.
I've scouted the area beforehand and located a great abundance of edible plant life, including sassafras, blueberries, and quite a large blackberry patch.
There is also a great deal of what I suspect to be "deer berry", but I've yet to positively identify them, and I don't know if they're edible or if they're just used for dyes or tinctures. If you read this far, take this as a homework assignment so we can all discuss: Find out how to positively identify Deer Berries, determine whether or not they are edible, and take note of any traditional uses for them.
