The purpose of this group is to connect with nature as we meditate. Buddha attained enlightenment meditating under the Bodhi Tree, while we have the pine, oaks, ashes, trees of heaven, poplars, and cedars.
We can meet and meditate for short sessions (20 minutes) or longer ones (1-2 hours), or stay as long as you wish.
Meeting places can include public forested areas, or member backyards (who wish to open their space to others), primarily in and around Chapel Hill, S. Durham, but maybe on occasion near Raleigh depending on whether members are willing to hold sessions there.
We can meet throughout the seasons, experiencing each one for what it has to share with us. It may be warm outside, the perfect weather, buggy, wet, or cold, but finding our connection and concentration through various distractions may strengthen and deepen our experience. (*it is a given that each of us must be responsible for taking care of one's self, bringing bug spray, epi pen, or not attending when it may be a risk.)
We may have guided meditations, or a traditional session where we have a single designated object on which to concentrate (spoken mantra / chant, the wind, a fire, breath, etc). Afterwards we may decide to discuss the experience with others, or not.
No experience needed to join, beginners may learn from the experienced, and the experienced may deepen their practice and patience by teaching beginners.
On special occasions we can bring in guest speakers and / or practitioners, offer formal meditation teacher training, etc. which would be fee-based, set per event.
Welcomes & instructions offered, then we'll meditate in two 15 minute intervals for this 30 minute session, getting up and / or stretching for a few minutes in between.
Bring a mat, towel, bug spray, whatever you need for this meditation under the sky.
Donations gratefully accepted, $5-15
No one turned away for lack of funds.
We will meet in the parking lot at Unity Center of Peace and go into the forest, over near the Buddha statue, to group meditate for 30ish minutes on the breath, simply noticing the air going in and out of the nose, letting thoughts come up and pass, and bringing the focus back to our breath.
If you wish to meditate with your mantra (or would like suggestions for this alternative method pls ask) feel free.
Suggested donations of $5-15 gratefully accepted and will be shared with Unity for granting us access to this space.
