• What we'll do --- This is a FREE 4.4 mi brisk walk by flashlight with LOTS of hidden stairs (15 stairways - give or take - and about 1466 stairs) in just under 2 hrs, with a FUN group, and hear some intriguing history to boot! ---- READ EVERYTHING BELOW PLEASE! ----- • IF YOU SIGN UP AND CAN'T MAKE IT, PLEASE TAKE YOURSELF OFF THE GOING LIST!!!!!! • GET THERE EARLY ENOUGH TO PARK - there IS parking, it just may take you a few minutes. Don't drive up at 6:30 and expect us to wait! If you're late, download the map on the link below and find us! • BRING A FLASHLIGHT, as it will be DARK. DARK. DARK. If you've never gone on an organized urban hike, you gotta check it out! (We try to do it weekly). Don't be afraid of the stairs - we wait for everyone and you can always bail out if you need to. Join us afterward for dinner at Souplantation on San Vicente & Montana (or someplace nearby)! Dog friendly (if your dog is friendly, can climb/descend stairs, and won't trip anyone!). Check out my page of historical photos and info for the area we will walk: https://socalstairclimbers.com/historical-info-for-selected-areas/rustic-canyon/ INTERACTIVE ROUTE MAP: Google Map, with start/end location, stairway locations, step counts, PLUS architectural/historical info & photos (click on the icons): https://www.google.com/maps/d/viewer?mid=1m-dwaZD4uQ2uKdlzJPmAlQIpNeHegCrP&ll=34.03131317653276%2C-118.51417512301634&z=16 ABOUT THE WALK: Join us for a great break in your week — an evening walk through the beautiful neighborhoods of Santa Monica and Rustic Canyons. This 4.4 mile loop traverses about 15 stairways, with 1,129 up-steps (that's 61 flights for you Fitbitters) and 332 down-steps, and climbs a total of 612 feet. It's a great introduction for stairwalking newcomers, but it's also a challenging hour and a half workout regardless of your experience level! We move quickly but will happily wait at the tops of stairways to collect the group. Dave and Kristy Moorman lead the loop in the early evening. We did this 50 Thursdays last year, and try to do it every week. If you are concerned about keeping up, it's easy to bail out at any point, but we want you to succeed! Meet up at the foot of West Channel at PCH (Santa Monica) at the top of the pedestrian underpass entrance (by the Shore Bar / Restaurant Giorgio Baldi). The Hungry Cat is no longer in business but the address is right where we start. We will leave right about at 6:30PM with or without you! If you're a little late, download the map (see above) and meet up with us! PARKING - ARRIVE EARLY TO FIND PARKING!! Free street parking can be found up West Channel, Entrada, Sycamore, or Mesa - a short walk from the start. Some meters on Entrada are 2 hour til 8PM (Meters at the lower end of W. Channel are 1 hr. max til 8PM, so forget about those!). The beach parking lot is always wide open - fees are (kinda) enforced until sundown — enter the beach lot from southbound PCH and walk through the pedestrian tunnel under PCH at the west end of the lot - it comes out right at the walk start. RESTROOMS - there are public restrooms along the beach parking lot across PCH from the start. You can walk under PCH through the tunnel in less than a minute. We go right by there at the beginning of the walk and we'll stop for anyone who needs it. • What to bring: Water bottle / Sweat towel / Flashlight (or cell phone w/light) DISCLAIMER: Event is led by Dave and Kristy Moorman. Please ensure that you are in good health before participating in the rigorous activity that this is. [Subtitle] *********************************😂😂😂 A Korean crime/ comedy/ rookie cop buddy movie? I am here for it!!! This looks like a lot of fun and thrills with apparently a lot of fighting too. Let's watch this and enjoy the mayhem, high jinks, and the pursuit. Film Review(August 2017/109 Minutes): Midnight Runners (Korean: 청년경찰; Hanja: 靑年警察; RR: Cheongnyeon gyeongchal; lit. Young Cop) – Park Seo-joon, Kang Ha-neul play crime-fighting rookies in hugely entertaining buddy cop thriller! After witnessing an abduction, a slow-witted jock and shy bookworm join forces to try to rescue the victim, leading to a night of comedic high jinks and shocking revelations After attracting recognition for his low-budget debut Koala, writer-director Kim Joo-hwan strides confidently into the commercial arena with Midnight Runners. It’s a fast-paced buddy cop thriller that proves the perfect star vehicle for young heartthrobs Park Seo-joon ( The Beauty Inside ) and Kang Ha-neul ( Mourning Grave ). At Seoul’s prestigious Police University, slow-witted jock Gi-jun (Park) and shy bookworm Hee-yeol (Kang) make an unlikely pair, but on a rare night out must become a formidable crime-fighting force, after witnessing the abduction of a young woman. Turning to the authorities for support, their pleas fall on deaf ears as the police are preoccupied with a high-profile kidnapping case. Gi-jun and Hee-yeol have no alternative but to investigate the abduction themselves, leading to a night of comedic high jinks and shocking revelations as they learn to apply both their deductive and combat training in the real world.... (South China Morning Post) Trailer: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cyVk51ksx4o AFTER THE MOVIE: Let's go get some snacks/drinks and chat about the movie and life :-) Sometimes we walk and sometimes go to our fave pub in Ktown. PARKING: There is a big free parking lot in the back of the building. The parking entrance is on Dunsmuir Street side. KCCLA is right next to El Rey Theatre. Entrance into KCCLA is in the parking lot. It closes around 10p. We appreciate any and all donations so we can continue to offer more diverse tours and events. If you would like to donate, you can donate directly to the host at the events or go to our Donate web page.
Agua Caliente Mineral Springs Campground
Many of us have heard of "The Bride to Nowhere" hike in LA. Some have even gone on it. After all . . . It's not too hard of a hike and it's not too far away. Goat Cyn Trestle https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Drvc9ID6yJU https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2E14QT58EJU https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dsHT6dfRFyU And if you like reading https://www.atlasobscura.com/places/goat-canyon-trestle or https://hiddensandiego.net/goat-canyon-trestle.php The second one he takes the approach from the north side and goes on tracks. That's MUCH longer. We are taking the route in from The east. Less miles, and also more rustic. Plain and simple this place is AMAZING. But it's far. As in too far to drive there and start the hike. So we will camp close by. This is easy camping, a hard hike and for those that wish it, . . . culture vulture tour on Sunday. The itinerary: Fri (eve): Robolights Sat: Goat Canyon Trestle Bridge Hike from Mortero Palms 5.5 to 6.4 round trip ELEVATION GAIN 2,200 to 2,513 feet https://modernhiker.com/hike/goat-canyon-trestle-via-mortero-palms/ This is in contrast to the route in from the north at 13.9 miles round trip ELEVATION GAIN 4,202 feet that takes the tracks. Even at the 6 miles round trip we will do: this is a desert hike. And THIS is why we are doing it in Jan the coolest time of year.
