  • Open Class EdTech #10 - EdTech: a bridge between university and market?
INFO & FREE TICKETS HERE (https://events.cri-paris.org/e/13/open-class-edtech-10-edtech-a-bridge-between-university-and-market) We are used to say that “education is the only sector which is not disrupted yet”. However there are many actors, public and private, who innovate and invent new solutions to improve the educational system and the ways to learn and teach. Nowadays, the disruption in education is coming from everywhere. The point is there are not many bridges between these different kinds of innovators, even though they have one common goal: to build educative solutions adapted to today’s challenges. What is the potential of the EdTech sector for building these bridges? To what extent EdTech is able to strengthen dialogue between all actors involved in the learning revolution? To discuss these issues, we will host Marie-Christine LEVET, founder of EduCapital, the first investment fund focused on EdTech at an European level. She will look back on her professional journey as a Venture Capital partner and a digital entrepreneur and will shed light on why she has decided to shift to education. She will bring her insights on the EdTech global, European and French markets: what are the challenges and the hopes? This will also be the opportunity to hear about her tips and tricks to launch your EdTech startup! Finally, what does a Master Class by an EdTech investor in an University mean? What modes of facilitation and fertilization could we imagine between the future edupreneur network of EduCapital and the University? This dialogue paves the way for an inclusive and sustainable revolution in education. _________________________________________________________________________________________________ Our speaker French internet pioneer, Marie-Christine LEVET has been the founder and CEO of major french internet companies. She founded Lycos France in 1997 and brought to one of the most visited portal in France in the year 2000. In 2001 she became the CEO of Club-Internet/T-Online France, where she developed the ADSL and TV/VOD offer. She was then the CEO of the hi-tech information media Groupe Tests where she transformed the traditional print media group into a digital bi-media group. After this strong entrepreneurial life, she turned back to venture capitalism in order to bring her experience to younger CEOs. In 2009, she took part in the creation of Jaina Capital, first entrepreneur fund in France, investing in early stage start ups, including Made.com, La Ruche qui dit oui, Ouicar, Devialet, Peak…She was also a venture partner at the “Google Fund for the innovation in the press”. She then decided to create EDUCAPITAL, first european fund dedicated to edtech that will be launched in Q2 2017. Marie-Christine serve now as board member of various companies : Iliad (Free), AFP, Mercialys, Maisons du Monde, Hi-Pay. Marie-Christine Levet is a graduate from HEC and holds a MBA from INSEAD. _________________________________________________________________________________________________ This Open Class is the perfect opportunity to discuss about creativity in education and to meet various kind of change-makers of education (students, researchers, startupers, teachers...) ! • OpenClass EdTech #9 - Innovative Education: Scalability and Culture
Innovative Education: Scalability and Culture A feedback from our students' workshops in India --- Seating is limited. Please take your FREE TICKET HERE --- (https://www.eventbrite.fr/e/billets-openclass-edtech-9-innovative-education-scalability-and-culture-31411153606) There are many education innovators all over the world. We all have inspiring examples in mind. One of the most crucial challenges is the scalability of these initiatives. In education, we cannot just copy-paste an existing program into a different context. The local context and the human factor are too important. At the Center for Research and Interdisciplinarity, we have the chance to host students from all over the world. They come with their own vision of education, their own stakes and they try to implement innovative programs abroad. In recent months, two groups of students have started to design and facilitate programs for challenge-based innovative learning in India : OCEAN’s Outreach program (http://ocean.cri-paris.org/) in Chennai and the STEAM School (http://school.makersasylum.com/) in Mumbai. This Open Class gives the opportunity to discover their first results and to discuss ways of scaling and adapting new educational initiatives to local contexts. We will explore the process behind setting up and expanding an educational project abroad, in particular in terms of cultural challenges, curriculum structure, funding and documentation of learning experiences. Along with the students’ presentation, we are really glad to welcome 3 great witnesses who are experts and project leaders in innovative education. They will give us their feedback, impressions, tips and challenges regarding this issue. • Muy-Cheng Peich, Director of Education, Content and Training @ Libraries Without Borders (https://www.bibliosansfrontieres.org/) (Bibliothèques Sans Frontières) • Svenia Busson, co-founder of EdTech World Tour (http://www.edtechworldtour.com/), founder of LearnSpace (http://www.learnspace.fr/) Indian Embassy This Open Class will be followed by a Q&A session and a convivial moment for discussion and networking. • Open Class EdTech #8 - Education & Democracy3.0
“Participatory Democracy & Data-driven Policy : What education facing the renewal of political practices?” >> PLEASE TAKE YOU TICKET HERE : https://www.eventbrite.fr/e/billets-open-class-edtech-8-what-education-participatory-democracy-data-driven-policy-28909457967 << It is an established fact: we are living in a dislocated democracy, in which we face crises about legitimacy, trust, accountability and relevance. Across countries, democracy and education are highly correlated. All democratic transitions that have happened over the world have implied education efforts at all levels of society. Today digital is changing the rules of the game : on one hand we observe a transformation of public action (online personalised services, algorithmic governance, surveillance, etc.); on the other hand, many citizens are using digital to empower themselves and to try inventing a more inclusive and sustainable democracy (explosion of civic tech initiatives around the world). In this democratic transition, there are many key education issues which are not really addressed for now in the public debate: _ What about the skills and literacy behind civic tech initiatives? _ How education systems should be adapted to train a new generation of citizens able to understand the influence of data and algorithms, to think about inclusive tools for participatory democracy, to co-design new services in the smart city, etc. ? _ How to train supportive, creative and resourceful citizens who will take decisions tomorrow ? These are just few examples to illustrate that Civic tech is not just about tools and elections periods: it opens the way to a continuing citizen activity, over the long term, which implies new ways of teaching, learning, creating and sharing. For this second Open Class of the academic year, we will have the chance to welcome Taddei François (https://www.facebook.com/francois.taddei.9), Director of the CRI, and Yann Algan (https://www.facebook.com/pages/Yann-Algan/288124091336451), Dean School of Public Affairs at Sciences Po. Yann Algan (https://www.facebook.com/pages/Yann-Algan/288124091336451) is leading the School of Public Affairs Sciences Po (https://www.facebook.com/SciencesPo/). His research interests include the interaction between trust, well-being and economic development, as well as collaborative economy and public policy. His work focuses on the use of Big Data to measure and analyze the factors that determine well-being and social attitudes. It also emphasizes recent progress in identifying the mechanisms by which institutions and policies can affect trust and well-being within society, schools and organizations. His research concentrates on the intersection between economy, psychology, management and sociology. Taddei François (https://www.facebook.com/francois.taddei.9) is a researcher in evolutionary systems biology and an expert on the future of research and education. In 2005 he founded the CRI Paris - Center for Research and Interdisciplinarity (https://www.facebook.com/CRI-Paris-Center-for-Research-and-Interdisciplinarity-340423209419902/) along with Ariel Lindner. He has taken the lead of the Institute for Learning Through Research that has been selected in March 2012 by the International Scientific Committee of the National Innovative Training Program (IDEFI) of the French ministry of research. He participates in various working groups on the future of research and education (« France 2025 », OECD report…). He holds the UNESCO Chair “Learning sciences”. >> PLEASE TAKE YOU TICKET HERE : https://www.eventbrite.fr/e/billets-open-class-edtech-8-what-education-participatory-democracy-data-driven-policy-28909457967 (https://www.facebook.com/l.php?u=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.eventbrite.fr%2Fe%2Fbillets-open-class-edtech-8-what-education-participatory-democracy-data-driven-policy-28909457967&h=tAQHRn7AY&enc=AZPJ8DWFcPEjtiHgKJFKe9zWMMrwXGVX8Xmr4bmyKUY6g7z78kZVTR-_y0DXVMIttkM&s=1) << We invite participants to continue the discussion after this Open Class during a dedicated barcamp “CIVIC TECH FOR LEARNING” which will take place during the Open Governement Partnership Global Summit (https://www.facebook.com/events/241036296261017/?action_history=null) in Paris in December.
