The purpose of this group is to develop the skills necessary to become a blockchain and Decentralized app (Dapp) developer. The end goal will be to develop the ability to create new forms of Dapps, services and protocols that will improve our lives. A side effect of this journey will be to learn how to learn new ideas.

We accept any and all who wish to learn about blockchains and Ethereum. The more experience the better, but eagerness to learn, make mistakes and experiment is most appreciated.

We value the use of technology to support the ideals of free inquiry, free thoughts, and free people. If this appeals to you, join!

In the spirit of goodwill, if you RSVP, please show up or update your RSVP accordingly. This gives the opportunity for another to show up.

Why this Meetup?

A spectre haunts the web - the spectre of surveillance and loss of control.

Our web needs a Reformation. The prevailing narrative of technology today is that we must sacrifice our privacy on the altar of progress. Nothing could be further from the truth. A free and open society can only exist if individuals own and control their data. We can build a web based on the values of liberty, freedom of consent, freedom of choice and mutual benefit.

Interested in contributing to an open source project? Why not consider the Linnia Protocol a try?

⚡Presentations: Fluidity-Smart Contract Testing + Zabo- Crypto for any App ⚡

The Flatiron School // Access Labs are proud to support the Ethereum Blockchain Devs Study Group. This is a regular gathering for Blockchain Devs of all levels to learn, present, work on in collaboration with one another or on solo projects in this fast-growing field. Our community is a welcoming space where any Ethereum and de-centralized ledger related question is fair game, be it beginner, intermediate, or advanced. ------------------------ AGENDA ‍🎟️ ------------------------ 🎤 6:30pm - 7:00pm: Q&A for Beginners 🎤 7:00pm - 8:00pm: Zabo- Connecting devs/users with existing crypto wallets and infrastructure using a single interface. ‍🎤 8:00pm - 8:30pm: Ethan Wessel, engineer at Fluidity, presents testing Ethereum smart contracts that depend on real-world time 🎤 8:00pm - 8:30pm: General Q&A / open floor presenations 🎤 8:50pm - 9:00pm: wrap up TODAY: Two presentations: 1) Christopher Brown and Zabo team presents: Zabo Zabo connects application developers and users with existing crypto wallets and infrastructure using a single interface. Users bring their own custodial or non-custodial wallet, not Zabo’s, to your application. Zabo will begin with an overview of the project, why it’s important, and provide a demonstration on how it works from the user’s perspective. After that, they will review some of the documentation and help you setup a wallet connection in less than 5 minutes. Clone the repository here to get a headstart: https://github.com/modular-network/zabo-nyc-demo Check them out at: https://zabo.com 2) Ethan Wessel, engineer at Fluidity, presents: Testing Ethereum Smart contracts Testing Ethereum smart contracts that depend on real-world time is hard. This presentation will take closer look at building the test infrastructure to support time-sensitive tests for smart contracts using Solidity, Ganache, and Truffle. The methods demonstrated can empower the developer community to write more isolated tests resulting in safer and more robust contracts. See test code at: https://github.com/ejwessel/TimeContract Give Ethan a follow at: https://github.com/ejwessel Truffle/Ganache website: https://www.trufflesuite.com Learn more about Fluidity at fluidity.io 3) Open floor for presentations Q&A. ------------------------ CURRICULUM ------------------------ SEE FULL CURRICULUM HERE: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1a_xmQYz9_IP34x-vt_oFDxT0gRT-BNXCr7IoQ3NR8Ho/edit?usp=sharing ------------------------ INFO ------------------------ Our goal is to foster a community where attendees can share coding tips, cool blockchain finds or short tutorials, set realistic goals, and encourage one another and create open source Dapps in a collaborative environment. We can’t wait to build a stronger blockchain developer community in New York City! ------------------------ HOW IT WORKS ------------------------ During our coding open source time the Meetup is divided into three levels: beginners, intermediate, advanced and planning committee. Think of it as a Montesorri school, self-directed but with structure and ALOT of peer collaboration. Beginners are given a set of collaborative self-guided learning goals. These goals are attainable in the time it takes to complete the meetup and will get your from zero to knowledgeable in 2 hours. Beginners should help each other and if intermediate or advanced are available ask for help. Intermediates are given a set of more advanced learning goals, including testing their knowledge on open-ended open source issues from various projects. The Advanced members will work on open source projects, creating issues, approving pull requests for projects that have been planned for using user-centric design. Those that wish to enter the planning phase of the project can join the planning committee which meets with domain experts to create feasible real world and viable Proof of Concepts technical along with specs of the projects. The purpose of these is to spin out viable open source blockchain applications. Any of the three levels can join the planning committee provided they have technical merit, domain experience or serves as the role of questioner/end user: a lay person that asks common sense questions about the project. All projects will be labelled under MIT license. More on that later. Shout out to member Dimitris Kouzis-Loukas for the great idea. ------------------------ JOIN OUR SLACK ------------------------ 1.
