With the Aaron Swartz IP case (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aaron_Swartz#Investigations_and_prosecution) still fresh in peoples mind, and with IPA Awareness (http://www.ipawareness.com.au/) videos flooding the airwaves; The Peace, Prosperity and Freedom club will be hosting a debate between two distinct natural rights philosophies: Libertarianism and Objectivism.
"… patents are the heart and core of property rights."
— Ayn Rand, Capitalism: The Unknown Ideal, 1966 [with similar references throughout her work]
"So-called intellectual property rights such as patent and copyright are monopoly privileges granted by the state that dilute and undermine property rights in scarce resources."
— Stephan Kinsella, Handbook of the Philosophical Foundations of Business Ethics, 2013 [his "Against Intellectual Property" opus was published 12 years ago]
The debate will be between Benjamin Marks (http://economics.org.au) (supporting Libertarianism) and David Prichard (http://sydney.filmstudygroup.org.au/) (supporting Objectivism).
The debate will last around 20 minutes, and include time for audience questions; followed by dinner with the debaters and other members.
