A Thanksgiving celebration achieves its true meaning not simply through an abundant table, but through the coming together of loved ones in shared gratitude and connection. In much the same way, our humanity reaches its fullness not through what we accumulate or achieve in the external world, but through the cultivation of virtue and living in harmony with our nature.
A feast without gratitude is merely consumption; a life without virtue is merely existence. This Thanksgiving, as we express gratitude for our blessings, let us also give thanks for the capacity we each possess to live virtuously, to choose reason over impulse, and to contribute to the common good. These are the ingredients of a life well-lived, a life that embodies our full humanity.
