Le Club Ciné-Surprise

  • Feb 4, 2013 · 6:00 PM
  • This location is shown only to members

This educational & linguistic event is about watching a SURPRISE French film in French with French subtitles (very unusual).

We will start in the bar area from 6pm, the best place to meet new people and see old friends while having a drink or something to eat. Then at 8pm we will seat down to enjoy this very nice movie...

Please note that as we show this movie for educational purposes within Le Club Ciné-Surprise, this is a strict members only event.  Please do not embarass yourself by bringing a guest, who we would need to turn away.

The proposed film is: ???... a surprise BUT this 2008 movie received 9 César Award nominations and won three! The characters will make you share their emotions and laughs...

 In French with French subtitles

Durée: 1h50

Genre: Drama

Please note that we ask members for a contribution of £2.50 to cover some of the costs of running Le Club Ciné-Surprise. Please kindly have the exact change with you.

The projection will start at 8 pm

Want to watch a trailer:

The upstairs bar will be opened for us from 6pm and please order any drinks and food at this bar.  Please note that the kitchen will close at 9.00pm, so if you want to have food you will need to order before then.

Please only book a space if you are 100% sure you will be able to attend as booking and non-attendance will deprive someone else of the pleasure of watching this great movie.

If you are not certain you will be able to attend, we would prefer if you could refrain from booking in advance and book your place nearer the time.

Le Club Ciné-Surprise is run by dedicated volunteers, who have very little time for people who don't show up at events. Please be aware  that if you fail to show up at any two events of Le Club Ciné-Surprise that you have RSVP'ed to, you will be banned from Le Club Ciné-Surprise for a period of 6 months (without affecting your membership to the main LFM).

Excellent choice of movie :-) Important to remember the simple but important thinks in life and not only miss them nor regret once they are gone, cause life sure keep moving. The important is probably to know if we want to be part of it or let it pass us by :-) Ahhhh resilience !

My husband thoroughly enjoyed the film last night. He is so excited about anything French !! Keep up the good work Pierre-Jean. I am so glad we found the London French Meetup link - a great way to practise a language. Therese

Great for meeting and chatting with other French speakers and for catching a French film. Today's film was not my favourite genre but it kept me entertained. All in all a good meetup.

It would be great to have English subtitles so those of us not fluent enough could also enjoy great French movies :)

Thank you Alina for your comment. In my experience and so many people have told me on countless occasions, after attending one of our movie events, the best way to learn/improve a language is indeed to have the subtitles in the same language as the movie. That way one is totally immerged and benefits from a much greater exposure to the language... It is maybe harder in the short term but brings fantastic results in the long term. I myself, many years ago, made some amazing progress when I started to watch movies in English with English subtitles. I am not sure if you have attended before one of our movie evenings but you should try it and give me your opinion at the end.
