  • Design in Practice: Understanding Product and Service Design
About Event _ We'll be unpacking what the loaded terms Product Design and Service Design mean in practice, what Product and Service Designers do, and how the two distinct disciplines often overlap and work towards communal end goals. Partnering with RetailMeNot and 5 Expert Practitioners, we intend to provide an engaging, participatory look into how industry professionals practice Product and Service Design. Leading with a panel discussion, we'll then facilitate an abridged workshop activity, followed by a group discussion. Come early or stick around after for a bit of networking to connect with fellow Designers, as well as professionals who are interested in serving as advisors & mentors. The Design in Practice event series is our Continued Learning initiative focused on providing an immersive, participatory platform for Design practitioners of all levels to gain experience and exposure to the real-world skills and methods employed by seasoned industry professionals. Takeaways _ - A better understanding of what the terms Product and Service Design mean - Common methods employed by Product and Service Designers - How to talk about Product and Service Design - Convey that Product and Service Design are different and often converging means to what should be the single, communal end of designing a solution that helps a person achieve a goal. - Convey that it's ok to approach Design in your own unique way and that at times Design means figuring out who your audience is and how to speak to them, to represent yourself and your point of view most effectively.
