BARNHARDT TRAIL - south of Payson

Sat, Mar 23
Leader: Chris Maglanes ([masked])

Length: 6.5 miles R/T
Phone:[masked] (evenings)

Rating: Moderate
MEET in Target parking lot at 16825 E Shea Blvd Fountain Hills, 7:45 AM

Elev Gain: 1,800 ft

NOTE: The Forest Service limits this hike to 15 people, so a direct RSVP with hike leader is required - see above for the hike leaders contact info.

If you are current on your $15 annual membership (hike leader will have list) the hike is free - otherwise bring $5.00 cash for the hike plus money for carpooling.

This hike takes place in the vast and beautiful Mazatzal Wilderness area. The trail starts out on the Barnhardt Mesa and winds through cholla, prickly pear, and palo verde. As we ascend toward Mazatzal range, or divide, we will move through pinyon pine and juniper with great views of the canyon and valley below. We will then come upon ponderosa pine and small oaks; if the conditions are right we could see numerous water falls before returning to the trailhead.

Well behaved dogs are welcome.
